Can anyone access the 1538-1973 marriages I put Henderson Greenwell birth about 1780 lived in Durham and get a marriage to Mary, no year or Mary's surname. I would like to know what further info is there if someone can help thank you

The FULL title of that database on Ancestry is:
England, Select Marriages, 1538-1973
It doesn't claim to be complete! ;D

Henderson Greenwell has been posted before on RootsChat. Title "Another Greenwell" by briann1
Briann is a ancestor of Mary Greenwell who you should see on my link.

There's a James Greenwell marrying a Mary Farol 14 Aug 1803 in
Marriage Place: Sunderland, Durham
Could he have changed his name?
Susan

The Henderson Greenwell that Barry posted about is the one I was hoping to find the marriage of I guessed at a birth of between 1770 and 1800 and that marriage on the 1538-1973 England marriages popped up. Henderson may have been a middle name as there is no other mention of him apart from his daughters marriage

I will keep looking.

Anything with Select in the title on ancestry is from familysearch so its always worth searching on there if there is any info missing in the entry on ancestry. ;)

I could not find any reference to "Henderson Greenwell" in familysearch.org, Durham Records Online, Find My Past, My Heritage or ancestry.com except for daughter Mary's father on family search.org.
Stanhope, County Durham and North Carolina, America are places known for giving male last names as (male) children's' first names to honour (male) friends and neighbours. I do not think this applies to Henderson. Probably as has been said before he could a John H, or a James H. or Charles H. and he has just dropped the first name as he liked Henderson.

Are you sure its not just the way it gets displayed on ancestry, having pulled the data from familysearch? It probably refers to Mary his daughter rather than Mary his spouse. Unfortunately the search of the Select records pulled from familysearch doesn't always work very well and often can appear with missing information in some views but not others?
I tried searching on Henderson's name on ancestry but nothing shows, which doesn't surprise me as there can be anomalies in their search results when someone else searches the same details. Did the entry you saw show any other information such as film number of page number? If yes, try comparing with a search against Mary his daughter or her husband to see if its the same reference, because if it is, then it refers to her marriage and not his.

I think it's actually an error in transcription by Ancestry!
What I am seeing is:
Name: Henderson Greenwell
Gender: Male
Child: Mary Greenwell
Although, if I hover the mouse over "View Record" I see:
Name: Henderson Greenwell
Gender: Male
Household Members Names:
Henderson Greenwell
Mary Greenwell
James Drummond
James Drummond
My guess is that it's a marriage of Mary Greenwell to James Drummond; fathers James Drummond and Henderson Greenwell.

Thanks All, one of my many questions still unanswered but I will persevere.
