Title: Robert Osborne HARRIS and his wife Lulu/a Frances LeVier
Post by: Priscilla on Monday 17 November 14 17:11 GMT (UK)
Robert Osborne Harris born 1893 in Cornwall emigrated to Summit Co, Ohio.
He married Lulu/a Frances LeVier.
On the 1920 US Census (Ohio), Robert is aged 27 years and he is with his wife Lulu who is aged 22 years. They are both buried in Manchester Cemetery, Summit Co, Ohio.
I have been able to research Lulu's family but I would really like to find out if Robert and Lulu had any children.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thankyou.

This appears to be them in the 1940 census with no children:  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KWGT-388

You can see entries for them on the obituary index here - http://sc.akronlibrary.org/genealogy/obituary-only-indexes-to-the-akron-beacon-journal/

Thank you for directing me to these websites - most helpful.
As I know they are together and married in the 1920 census am wondering if it is possible to find them (and possibly children ...) on the next available census.  Would that be possible do you think?
Again, thank you for your help.

You can see some of his naturalization records here - http://204.126.123.146/Naturalization/NaturalizationSearch.aspx  The ones from 1921 state that he had no children.

Robert's WWII draft registration card can be seen here - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X58V-D4H

Thank you for all the wonderful information.
I cannot find them on the 1930 Census - which is just so disappointing.
(I wonder where they were ... ?!)  Very curious!
It is just so marvellous to see copies of the original documents with their handwriting and signatures on them - tiz truly amazing!
Thank you very much indeed Shellyesq - you're a star!

You're quite welcome!

I think I found them in 1930 with the rather mangled names Roe & Elva - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X4C1-XBX

Various Akron city directories from the 1920's and 1930's have Robt. O. and Lulu F. living at 203 W. State St.  They also have the lodger from the 1940 census, Byrle or Burrell W. Gillette, living at that address since at least 1928, and it looks like he's listed as B.W. in that 1930 census.  The image of the 1930 census gives their address as 203 W. Center Street, so close to the address in the directories.  The occupation given for "Roe" in the census was business - grocery, which fits with the other census records and the directory entries that have him working at A&P.

In response to Shelley's comment:  "You can see entries for them on the obituary index here - http://sc.akronlibrary.org/genealogy/obituary-only-indexes-to-the-akron-beacon-journal/", I don't believe that either of those entries for obits are for your two individuals.

According to, Ohio, Death Index, 1908-1932, 1938-1944, and 1958-2007, found at www.familysearch.org, Lula died 10 Jan 1985.  Therefore, her obit would probably not appear 3 weeks later.  There is another Lula Harris, listed below yours on the link below, who died 31 Jan 1985 in Summit County and that obit is probably hers.

The same is also true for Robert.  Yours died 13 Sep 1987 and there is another Robert O Harris also in Summit County who died August of 1986.  Entries 4 and 5 on the following link at www.familysearch.org:

https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3A%22Robert%20O%22~%20%2Bsurname%3AHarris~%20%2Bdeath_place%3A%22Summit%20County%2C%20Ohio%22~%20%2Bdeath_year%3A1986-1987~

I would have thought the middle initial O was a clincher, but I guess not!   ;)

On first look, I thought the same.  It wasn't until I tried to find the obits that it dawned on me the dates were out of whack.   Who would have thought there would be 2 Lula Harris and 2 Roberts O Harris in the same county who died within a month/year of each other.

Dear Shellyesq and Genealiza,
Thank you for further messages and interest shown in my query.
Just for your interest I have found Lulu and Robert listed on Find a Grave ...
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=29448031&PIpi=59306212

Having never been to Ohio I was interested to read the inscription on their memorial plaque - "This grand land".

Robert was born in Marazion, Cornwall, a little village in Mount's Bay and on a bright summers day you could easily believe you were down in the Mediterranean!  It is absolutely beautiful.

http://www.marazion.info/

Sadly it very much looks as though Lulu and Robert did not have any children.

Again, very many thanks for your help and interest shown.
