Hello,

I am trying to find the parents of Jonathan SPEED.

Here is what I have so far.

He was born in 1802 in Farrington Gurney, Somerset and went on to marry Sarah Marchant in 1836 in Bedminster, Somerset.

From what I found his parents were named Robert and Mary, but I can not find their birth records, nor their marriage record. Please help so I can continue my research.

Hi and a warm welcome to Rootschat!

So, you have a baptism of James in 1802 to Robert and Mary Speed.

Have you searched in the years either side, and in neighbouring parishes, for siblings of James?
Then you will have an idea of whether he was the eldest possibly born within a year or two of the marriage, or maybe the youngest of a large brood born maybe 20 years after his parents married.

I just realized I put James instead of Jonathan. So sorry for your wasted time, James repeats so much in my family tree it is stuck in my head.

The marriage Cathy mentions sounds a good possibility - they had a son baptised in 1797 named Robert and he named his eldest son Jonathan (Chewton Mendip 1825)

From the site quoted by Cathy;
William Speed married Sarah (her second name is not known) in Castle Carey on 9th June 1771. They had a son called Robert who was born c1763 in Castle Carey.

Child born 7yrs before Marriage!

I cant find a Marriage pre 1750 though on FreeREG or Familysearch.
