Would someone please be kind enough to look at the 1851 Census of Dunstable and look for this Plummer family?
1861 Civil parish: St Luke County/Island: Middlesex Country: England
Source information: RG9/203 Registration district: St Luke Sub-registration district: City Road ED, institution, or vessel: 10 Folio: 80 Page: 40
Plummer, Thomas (head) 49 Shoemaker, born Middlesex, St. Luke
Elizabeth 48 (wife) Shoe binder, “
Alfred 24 (son) Shoemaker, “
Clara 10 (dau) Scholar, born Dunstable, Bedfordshire
Ernest Jones (son) 7 Scholar, born Middlesex, St. Luke
Wells, Anne (mother in law) 72, Bonnet maker, born St. Luke
I have just spent a week looking through St. Luke and discovered by the census that in 1851 this family was in Dunstable for some reason. Daughter Clara married Samuel George Eaton and later census also confirms she was born in Dunstable. I would appreciate any help.
Thank you,
Stephanie

Hello Stephanie,
I come from a long (researched) line of Plummers and this is pretty much the first time I have seen another Plummer interest on Rootschat.
However, I do not think I can connect my line to yours, but briefly just for your interest -
Martin Plummer b. 1785 Somerset. d. Shoreditch.1872
His son. Joseph Plummer b. 1824, Marylebone, Midd.
Dau. Elizabeth b. 1834/5
Joseph and a poss. other sibling emmigrated to Aust in 1849.
I wish you heaps of success in your research. I will watch your posts as they come up. Sue

This sounds eerily familiar. Thomas Plummer’s sister, Mary, is actually my direct line. Mary, and her brother Thomas, were the children of Samuel Plummer (jeweler/silversmith/watchmaker) and Harriett Cooper. My Plummer’s were from Shoreditch, as well. My Mary married Thomas Bramwell (shoemaker) who was born in St Marylebone. They moved to Southampton and shortly after Thomas’ death in 1855 the family moved to Australia. Both the names Joseph and Elizabeth were frequently used by my family. Have you pursued your Plummer's in Australia? I think I may have an index of Plummers somewhere for Victoria if you haven't.
Sincerely,
Steph

Hi Stephanie,
Yes, we have a very extensively researched line of Plummers for Aust because it is where we are! There is some usual-style info. about English origins pre 1840's.
Aussie stuff starts about 1849 when they first arrived and it ranges from Adelaide to the Victorian goldfields to South Melbourne (Vic) in the cordial making industry.
I think there was more than one Plummer line on the goldfields in the 80's We have been aware of "a group" that's mentioned on a couple of sites whom we cannot link into our known line (which, as I say, is fairly well researched).
I would be interested to see your Joseph & Elizabeth names and dates. Langdon and Hendry are other significant names.
The only Samuel on my line was b.1861 at Inglewood (goldfields). 8th child of Joseph Langdon Plummer and Agnes (nee Hendry). He married Susan Lillian Houghton in 1868. No more info on him.
Cheers for now, Sue

Hi Stephanie,
Yes, as you can see MARTIN and CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH WILKINS were our ancestors too. (My cousin and I )
Their son JOSEPH LANGDON PLUMMER, your Elizabeth's, brother was our gg grandfather.
He came to Australia, possibly as ship's crew, where he married. This union produced twelve children, some of whom died in childhood on the goldfields.
Apart from ELIZABETH and JOSEPH, and another brother PHILIP, who was also in Australia and died here, we have not positively identified other children to MARTIN PLUMMER and CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH. Have you?
Regards, Sue

Hi MaggieElizabeth,
Thanks for your reply.
I have the image of the marriage you mention.
Do you have any certificates of death/marriage for the other children you mention?
We have certainly seen MARTHA on the census records and noted her marriage so, circumstantially she would seem very likely, but have no supporting certification with which to make positive identification.
We have some notes for PHILIP which may interest you.
I am able to access the A** site you mention.
