Hi All,
I have a postcard of Middlesbrough in 1836 ( its a landscape painting ), i am trying to date it, its unposted & no stamp?
Does anyone have any idea. on the back it say's Standard Series Wilson, Corporation road Middlesbrough. is Wilson the company name ?
any help would be great.

The image may be of Middlesbrough 1836 but the first known printed postcard with an image on one side was created in France in 1870.

Yes it was painted in 1836 probably an oil painting of the town,
the postcard could be made around 1910s - 1960s or even a copy printed much later .
I was just wonder if anyone could date it or had info on the company.

That's the Ship Inn with the lettering on the gable end it was burned down a few years ago situated at the end of Stockton Street close to Depot Road.
I think the same image is in Lillie's book "The History of Middlesbrough"
