Title: Offer: Norwich Cemetery look ups
Post by: Olleyke on Saturday 20 December 14 16:57 GMT (UK)
After 1856, most people who died in 'Norwich' were buried in either The Rosary Cemetery, or Norwich Cemetery, also known as Earlham Cemetery. I'm planning a trip to the Archive Centre in the new year and would be more than happy to look up any burials that people may have. Also, if there is any indication that there may be a headstone, I would be happy to visit and take a photograph.

Judi, I managed to find him, but unfortunately he doesn't have a headstone.

Section I, Plot 694
John Banham, 73 years
Burial Date: 10 Apr 1873
Occupation: Glover
Abode: Lakenham

I also noticed in the plot next to him;

Section I, Plot 695
Margaret Banham, 52 years
Burial Date: 14 May 1873
Occupation: Wife of John Banham
Abode: St Stephen

I don't know if that's any relation but I thought I'd give you the information anyway.

Hi Deb.

Unfortunately I was unable to find any of the Stockers and Emily Smith, but I did find a death notice in the Eastern Daily Press newspaper for Mary Roberts Stocker.

" STOCKER - Suddenly, on January 23 at her residence, 9 Grove Road, Norwich, Mary Roberts relict of the late James Stocker Esq of Glebe House Stratford, aged 77 "

I did find Walter Samuel Wright, his wife, and another two family members in the same plot;

Section 15, Plot 486
Ethel May Wright, 18 years
Burial date: 19 Aug 1902
Occupation: Daughter of Walter Samuel Wright
Abode: St Clement Without
---------
Walter Samuel Wright, 74 years
Burial date: 27 July 1929
Occupation: Clerk in Holy Order
Abode: 63 Thorpe Road
---------
Annie Hampton Wright, 73 years
Burial date: 11 June 1929
Occupation: Widow of Rev Walter Samuel Wright
Abode: Skilsby Lines (unsure if that's right, writing very faint)
---------
Annie Vera Grace Wright, 86 years (cremated remains)
Burial date: 05 Apr 1974
Occupation: Spinster
Abode: 13 Alexandra Road, Sheringham

And they do have a headstone! I took a trip to the cemetery as I was passing and managed to find the grave. I took some photographs that I'd love to send you. If you're interested feel free to pop me a message with your e-mail address and I'll get them sent over to you :)

Hi Kirsty
just thought I'd let you know that through a process of elimination I have found the youngest STOCKER (Alice Maud May) - her ashes were scattered at Stonefall Cemetery's Garden of Rest - so one tick. Still haven't found the mum Mary Roberts Stocker though - still looking
but thanks for your help
cheers

Hello, I see from recent posts, I have missed the boat reguarding lookups for Norwich, my Long family were railway workers in Thorpe Hamlet in1881 living at Chalk Hills, Joseph Long was 26 and a railway firman, born Norwich, with Lousia his wife, aged 27, and family Bertie, Joseph, and Robert, but the family moved to Wymondham  at the turn of the centuary, thanks Margaret.
