Title: Probatesearch
Post by: squinn5 on Wednesday 24 December 14 04:13 GMT (UK)
Hi

Has anyone here used this new probate service (https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk)?

I ordered a will on the 12th December 14. I have today received the email saying that the requested will I had ordered had been delivered and to access it to log in. There is no document there that I can see and nothing to download but it says 24/12/14 under the delivered column.

Does anyone know how to access the will?

Email received today 24/12/14 from no-reply@probatesearch.service.gov.uk

Order delivered

Order made 12/12/2014 06:07:06

I do not live in the Mother Country now. Your e-mail is the first time I have heard of the site. My first (over) reaction was that it was a scam. However on investigating it is not a scam. My apologies to HM Government. However the site is a little sensitive and am not surprised there are glitches.

The site does have a few peculiarities at times but it is still listed as Beta even though it is live. :D

I ordered a copy on the 11/12 and had an email just after midnight on 23/12.  After the "Delivered" column, there are three further columns, one for "First Downloaded", a second for "Available until", then a third with no label but it provides links for "Download Grant" and "Will".  The Will link was an anomaly because it caused an error, the Will itself was attached to the pdf under the Grant.  The date in the "Available until" column wasn't visible when I first downloaded the pdf, but now shows.

squinn5, I take it you have nothing listed in that last column?

It happened to me once during the beta

I sent an email via the feedback link and they got it fixed well within the deadline they quoted

I ordered a will and it was ready to download in 10 days, as Smudwhisk says, it is the last column that you need. My uncle's will that I ordered confirmed what I'd thought, apart from a few bequests to nieces and nephews, he left everything to the church. I'd been curious for years, but this service made it so much easier to get his will.

It is also a good service, as for probates between 1858 and 1996 it is possible to see the exact date of death and often the address. Unfortunately an awful lot of my family don't appear to have left a will.

Hi

Thanks for all the responses. I have just received an email (which didn't expect to receive so soon) but was advised there was a 'technical issue' and that 'within the next couple of days your documents should be available'.

Will wait and see what happens, especially considering tomorrow is Christmas.

I know this is an old thread, but I tried to order two Wills today using their Beta System.

Had to register an account, and did so. But the activation email has not arrived. Tried twice with two different registrations - message is I cannot sign-in until the account is activated via the email we have sent you. Oh no they haven't. I provided feedback but don't expect any response.

Anybody else had this experience recently? At £1.50 a pop, it's good value for money. Except that it doesn't work!

Have you checked your spam folder? Always a good idea when using a site for the first time.

Yes. Have you succeeded where I haven't?
