Title: Isle of Man Wills
Post by: fridayschild on Sunday 28 December 14 14:49 GMT (UK)
My 2x Great Uncle William Lewis died in Nobles Hospital in 1957, he had lived in the IOM since 1945. Does anyone know of an online index to wills for the IOM?  :)

there is one but not for this period (see www.iomfhs.im under research)- you need enquire at General Registry (see www.gov.im)

I Have also wanted to get a copy of a will but you need a probate number and you have to go and search for one personally or someone has to do it one your behalf, therefore I haven't been able to progress with my research

I thought Wills were now available to order on-line at the address the person gave earlier.  You look up using the year that the person died and their surname and name and then it will pull up if they left a will or not.  It costs £10 to order and takes about 2-3 weeks for it to arrive via email, you then have 31 days to download it.

What you look for is:

probatesearch.service.gov.uk

They have wills and probate for 1996 to present, Wills and Probate 1858 - 1996 and Soldiers Wills

That applies to England & Wales.

Please remember that the Isle of Man is not part of the UK, and has it's own Probate service.
