Title: Listellick South
Post by: Nettie on Thursday 01 January 15 10:12 GMT (UK)
Is there a way of tracing the purchase of land / a house between 1901 and 1911 and it's subsequent disposal (date unknown).

In 1901, house 1 Listellick South, Doon was primarily occupied by the Murphy family and a Richard Murphy was the landholder of both house 1 and 2.

By 1911, the landholders of both houses were my great grand uncles, John and Michael Finn. With the 1911 census showing their father, James as Head, even though both John and Michael (aged in their 40s) also lived in the house.

The house still stands and has been extensively renovated and the adjoining land, perhaps from house 2, was believed to have been 'donated' for a new national school. John, known as Millionaire Jack, apparently died January 1935 in Tralee while Michael died here in Australia in October of the same year.

Any help appreciated.
Happy New Year 🎉

The Valuation Revision books would allow you to trace a property from the printed version of Griffith's Valuation (mid-1800s) until c1930 but the ones for Kerry would be in the National Archives, Dublin.

Thanks, Dathai, I did find that record yesterday and can't as yet work out who Patrick was to him. I'm assuming (bad to do I know) that Bridget would have been his sister. Family story is that he was very good at taking care of the unmarried / widowed women in and vulnerable children in the family.

Yes, if you can locate the property on a Barony map you can get a search done at Land Registry. Owners, Dates of changes etc....

Thanks Hallmark and Aghadowey, I shall look into this possibility, with the understanding that it may not be there.

I would be more inclined to think Bridget was his Niece age 19 in 1911 as grandaughter to James and Julia

possibly her in 1901

1911 same family minus Patrick,Bridget and John

Patrick O'Connor probably a son in law or executor of will.
Then again Philip Finn died 17 Aug 1928 his Will to his wife Bridget Finn
I suppose you know you can order up a copy for further info

Thanks for the links, Dathai. You might be right with the niece angle. I'll go through them all carefully and see where O'Connor might  pop up.

Hi Dathai, my apologies for not reading this earlier. I am having difficulty accessing my email where I receive these notifications. Thank you so much for the added information, much appreciated.

It's so nice to get a better picture of family relationships and not just direct ancestors.  ;D
