Hi all thanks for the information. I am particularly interested in a record of Fredrick's birth record. His father also Fredrick died in 1905 and is remembered as Band master 2bn Vols South Lancs Regt.
regards.

That looks like the man I am looking for . Thanks very much I now need to discover what regiment or army unit his father was in when he was stationed in Kilkenny. thanks
-
I noticed a that a sister, Ada, was also born in Ireland so this is a possiblity:
Ada Winifred Pentland Hall, July/Sept.1882 Cork registration district, volume 5 page 150

So now I have to consider that Frederick snr was stationed in some barracks in cork at that time. Any ideas please

I merely said that Ada born in Cork was a possibility. This record, of correct, would rule out that birth-
"Ada Winifred Pentland Hall was born in 1882.1 She was the daughter of Edwin Hall and Ada Georgina Shekleton.2 She died, unmarried."
