Title: Joseph Kane,Charlemont St
Post by: dathai on Thursday 29 January 15 14:46 GMT (UK)
Hi all  i am doing a family tree for a friend and got stuck on his great grandfather Joseph son of John
Marriage in St Brigids Blanchardstown 1891
Joseph Kane a porter,Charlemont St son of John Kane a candlemaker ?(illegible) to
Teresa Connor  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FPY1-R8N   Michael a cooper by trade.
Have tied up Teresa's family through various sponsors etc at their childrens baptisms.

Joseph's family are another kettle of fish so to speak the direction i am heading in unfortunately lead's to parents that did'nt bother to register their children or only had the one son as i found this baptism
of John J kane in 1869    http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/e2c4c40019450
which lead me to a Limerick man as his father
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/bc6a300011526

Joseph in 1901 states he is 32 and 42 in 1911 giving him a date of 1869
312 Harolds Cross Cottages
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003710637/

Is there any way of proving his mothers name to link him positively to the Limerick John Kane.
I have emailed St Brigid's ,Blanchardstown but got no responce.

Any help or guidance much appreciated
Dathai.

Hi Dathai

That baptism has a Francis Kane on it !

This marriage for a Francis Kane has the same parents as the John Kane marriage so I'd be pretty confident that Francis, Joseph & John were brothers !

Sorry Dathai

Just rereading the time line !

I though Joseph was MARRIED in 1873 NOT that his wife was born in 1873.

So,

It would appear that Joseph Kane was the son of John Kane and Mary Anne O'Connell.

John Kane lived in Charlemont Street.

John Kane had a brother called Francis Kane whom also lived in Charlemont Street.

Thn

John Kane and Francis Kane's parent's were:

John Kane & Bridget Cruise Kane whom were from Limerick !

Does that make sense ?

Hi Tara  welcome back
Thank's for that but as you can probably see from Irish Genealogy there is nothing appearing for them either other than their marriage.
I think you got a little confused here i am trying to prove that Joseph is the son of John Kane and Maria O'Connell and Francis would be John's brother and Joseph's uncle.
As you can see from Joseph's children's baptism's there are no Kane sponsors to help get any lead's.

1870 In Glasnevin shows a 29 year old John Kane being buried from Charlemont Street.

Could Joseph's Mum have gotten remarried ?

This could explain the lack of Kane references in later years !

Just in case the Mary Anne O'Connell works out this looks like a possibility for her parent's marriage !

I noticed that Joseph gave his second son the middle name of Francis !

I wonder MIGHT Francis have helped in rearing Joseph ~ maybe even took him in ?

Given that it looks possible that Francis was in Charlemont Street up 'til 1886 and Joseph was still there after that it would certainly be possible that this uncle and nephew could have been very close !

Good reasoning Tara at least both Death's appear to be registered exact as Glasnevin but i am reluctant to buy same at the moment till i can positively link them to Joseph.
Maybe when the new index come's on line we might get a few leads.

I think the Kane/O'Connell parents could be a good call

Possible baptism (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/e2c4c40019450) John J KANE parents John KANE and Mary CONNOLL; address Charlemont Street
There are 2-3 possible Civil Records for this birth
Dublin South 1869 Q- V 7 P696 and Dublin South 1869 Q- V 7 P775; with another in Rathdown
I would invest in these birth certs and see if John KANE, candlemaker appears as the father

Marriage of John KANE and Maria Anna O’CONNELL (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/bc6a300011526) in 1862 as previously mentioned; noting that John's address is given as Limerick however when you read the original it is his parents that are from Limerick

Another connection to consider is this baptism of James Patrick KANE in 1892 (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/d80fed0125229)
His parents are shown as Stephen KANE and Mary LAWLOR
The sponsors are shown as Jos KANE and Teresa KANE

Unfortunately I’ve had no luck locating a marriage for this couple or other children

Thanks MyLuck
i have eliminated the three birth's p696 p775 and p1010 Kingstown as they appear on 1620 to 1881 births and baptisms with their parents names.
Re James Patrick 1892 that was a good spot Jos and Teresa Kane as sponsors just a pity their address was'nt recorded but i will keep a note of it for future reference.
