John Gee born 1828 Latchford, Cheshire became a Police Superintendent in Manchester and retired in Great Budworth. Does anyone know the name of a book he wrote of his Adventures as a Policeman?
His parents were John Gee and Sarah Whitfield who married in Grappenhall on 8 May 1825.
Help required please in tracing the parents of this John Gee - i.e the Grandparents of John Gee born 1828.

He gets a mention in this bio of Jerome Caminada http://tinyurl.com/lgu3pcb

John Gee's daughter Clara was my grandmother's stepmother and I have a lot of information about her if you are interested.

Thank you Stoic I would love some more information on Clara Gee. I know that she married Frederick Renshaw on 2 July 1885 (intended marriage, Chester) I wonder why intended? She had a daughter Ada b Moss Side in 1881 before her marriage. I would be most interested to hear more.

2 July 1885 (intended marriage, Chester)
2 July 1985 was the date of the marriage licence, not the marriage. The marriage took place on 29 July 1885 at Great Budworth.

Ada was Frederick Renshaw's daughter by his marriage to Elizabeth Hind 1850-1882. I don't think Clara had any children but Ada thought so well of her that she called her daughter Clara. Frederick died in 1902. Clara and Ada lived a fairly intellectual/musical life in Didsbury until Ada's marriage in 1912, then later that year Clara became the third wife of Thomas Wood 1847-1924. Clara died in 1929. Anything else?

Thank you Shaun and Stoic. Do you know if there is any truth in the anecdote that John Gee born Latchford, father of Clara, died as the result of a pony and trap accident at a cross roads in Great Budworth, Cheshire?

In 1900 there was a Clarrie Gee who may be connected with Policeman John Gee. He had 3 sons. William 1850. I assume Wm. died young as no further reference to him. 1855 Henry married Jessie May Gorst in January 1881 but I cannot find any children for them. 1858 Frederick Whitfield who died unmarried in 1878. Does anyone know who Clarrie Gee might be?

There is a possible death for William in 1868 though if that is right he ought to be findable in 1861. After Henry 1855-1930 and Frederick 1857-78 came Clara 1859-1929 and Ada Annie 1863-1930. The Clarrie you found in 1901 is probably Henry's eldest child (of six) Clara Gertrude. She stayed with her parents, unmarried, moving with them to Hendon where all three died.

Thank you Stoic. You have been very helpful. The pony and trap story must relate to another family member.
-
I haven't heard the story but it may well be true. Where did you hear it?

Family reminiscences in the 1980's.
