James IRVIN died in New Zealand in 1893, aged 64 years. Said to have resided here for "about 30 years".
Very little is known about this man prior to his arrival in New Zealand, apart from having been born in Canada. I do however have the names of his parents-
Father: Christopher Irvin.
Mother: Mary (maiden named unknown)
James' father was said to have been an army officer.
Can anyone find anything about James or his family please?

Hi Fastfushion & Karenlee.....
Thank you for your interest and input.
However from the information provided, James would have been born about 1829 [aged 64 years at death in 1893].
Yes Karenlee, it is nice to have Waitangi Day tacked onto a weekend too, for a change. ;D

Sorry Karenlee,
I was not paying close enough attention to the date in your post. ::) I will blame it on lack of sleep!
I agree that the marriage you found could well be the parents of the James I am trying to pin down.
I have found that on occasion the spelling has been mistakenly reported as Irwin or Irvine so you could be on to it, thank you.......

Hi, My father's great grandfather was James Irvin born in Quebec Canada around 1829 to Christopher and Mary Irvin. James died in NZ in 1893. I have been trying to find out more about where James was born and the rest of his family. I know that Christopher was born in Ireland and was possibly army. But finding the information is hard. I have come across your post and wondered if you have found out any more information on the family. I have just joined Rootschat and look forward to hearing from you.
