Looking for some help please.
I am new to searching Scottish records and I am unsure where to start. I am researching James Russell above and his parents James Russell born abt 1781 and his wife Mary both from Scotland. I can only assume that they were also from the Isle of Arran. Where would I go to research their marriage? Why did they leave and move all the way to Romsey in Hampshire? The occupation of both were labourers.
I have searched FindMyPast, Ancestry and Family Search, any suggestions where I should look next please?
Look forward to receiving any response . . . Ann

If I have the right James in 1861 he is born c 1823 Isle of Arran, Scotland
Married to Sarah and living in Dorset with 2 Children aged 10/6
With them is his Sister Eliza born c 1839 Romsey, Hampshire.
I doubt that James/Elizas Parents would then be born c 1781?
1851 he is born c 1823 - Sct B S, living in Romsey, Hampshire with Sarah and Son age 5mths.
I presume you have his Father as James from his Marriage to Sarah ALFORD. 29 April 1848, Romsey, Hampshire ?
(FreeBMD has him as Russel)
This appears to be Eliza in 1841
HO107/401/14/ Romsey Infra
Mary RUSSELL. 40, born Scotland
Tom, 12
ELIZA, 2
Tom/Eliza both born Hampshire
This Mary is 40ish which is a more likely age to be the Mother of James/Tom/Eliza
(there are other Children on Familysearch to this Couple, some may have died )
Burial;
James RUSSELL, 9 August 1840, Romsey, Hampshire

It appears Mary died 1850 (F/S.Org)
Eliza Birth Cert will give you Marys maiden name (check FreeBMD)
She was Christened 5 Aug 1838 so Birth Reg should be near that.
