Is anybody else seeing this error message on Ancestry?
Only happened today. I am getting the following message when I input anything on any Ancestry search page. It does not affect me using the site in any way
Error. There appears to be a problem with your email address. Click here to verify your email address.
I won't post further details at this stage in case the problem is only on my pc

Hi CaroleW
I have had the message for at least 4 days. Have ignored it and not clicked. I did consider contacting Ancestry by phone, but have had a busy few days.
If it's still there tomorrow I will contact them.
-
Hi, I've just ran a search with mine and all seems well.
Frank.

Hi, back again, just checked there facebook page and they are aware of the problem and are trying to sort it out ::) Knowing how they are at times I wouldn't hold your breath.
Frank.
ADDED: Taken from the Facebook page:
"Hi ****, apologies for this error message. We are looking into it and are gathering information from our members. Could you private message us your email address to take a further look."
End of quote.
I would think it is up to individuals as to whether they message them.

Thanks Frank
Like Carole I thought it might just be my PC. I'm not on Facebook .

That's great - thanks a lot.
I have made 4 attempts to ring them today but waited so long to speak to anybody that I gave up

Hi all, it seems they are telling people to clear the browsing history, cookies etc and reboot the laptops / computers and that should work, HOWEVER, one person did this the other day but the problem has happened again today.
Frank (Facebook mole ;D )

Hi Frank
Clearing out etc doesn't work ::)
I've just done a full clear out of my browsing history plus cookies which has removed all my logins/passwords
Logged into Ancestry - and lo and behold - message is still there so it can stay there until they fix it properly ???
Cheers

I have had this message for days. I emailed them - they said they were investigating and now I am ignoring it - I am still getting emails from them so ........................... More irritating is the fact that they say I have hints when I haven't!
-
Had this message last week and emailed them, they got back to me after a couple of days and cleared it, now today it is back! Also saying I have hints when I haven't...drives me mad! ::)
-
I have had this for a week or more so far. I followed the link and my address looked ok so I ignored it. At the weekend I got bored so I went and changed my email address (I have another I could use) and then changed it back to the original one without any problem. They duly sent me an email to the "new" address each time without any problems ::)
The message went away so I thought that had fixed things..... and then I noticed it back again tonight ???. Since it seems that it isn't just me I will go back to ignoring it till it goes away :)

Same here ::)
When it came back yesterday I tried clearing the cache, cookies, internet history etc as suggested in their email but it didn't work ::) Doesn't appear to be causing any problems though so will leave it for now!

I'm not getting the email warning, but what I do keep getting every so often is some (not all) of the headings on search results screen being in German!!

Hi all, Well would you believe it! just logged onto Ancestry and yes, ...............................................
I've now got the email warning banner ::) ::) ::)
Frank.
-
I thought is was just me.
I've had the Email warning banner forthe last few days too.

I get lots of German headings and I think other languages too. I'm sure I had French headings last week.

......................................................... I'm sure I had French headings last week.
:o :o :o Yes! I had a full page of results in French last night >:(

I'm not sure if this is part of the same problem...I'm unable to access my messages in the message centre by clicking the "envelope". They say I must do all that clearing out of cookies etc., and also change browser but I don't want to change. I access them in other ways, but if there's a number on the envelope it's more convenient to click there.

I've had this warning for a while now as well! Clicking on it didn't do anything so I've just ignored it :-\ as it doesn't interfere with anything.
As Ancestry know about it; I suppose they will fix it soon... (Hopefully :) )

rayard, do you use IE and have tracking protection enabled?
If yes, and assuming you are using either IE10 or 11 (apparently it doesn't work in IE9 either but possibly for other reasons) then that will be what is causing the problem. If you turn off tracking protection, it works. I use IE10 with tracking protection enabled. I've even upgraded to IE11 but get the same problem. :-X
I suspect if Firefox is used with a similar add-on the same issue will occur, although I only use Firefox without any add-ons as a backup to IE and can access message centre.
There has been a discussion about it on one of ancestry's message boards with, as usual, some less than helpful comments about upgrading the browser and stop complaining. However, as the problem remains in IE11, that is somewhat irrelevant.
-
Thank you smudwhisk, I do use Firefox. My husband does all the technical stuff so I will check.
Regards, rayard.

I think the problem is with the pop-up message that announces the new message centre. :-\ Unfortunately it doesn't recognise the fact you've seen it and appears each time. However, if I re-enable tracking protection in IE while in message centre, I can move between inbox and sent items without an issue. When I move to another part of the site and try to access message centre again, I get the problem. I know tracking protection has an issue with their configuration for me, it could be a similar plug-in in firefox for you but your OH may need to dig about a bit. I have flagged this to ancestry, but whether they will do anything is another matter. :-X They don't appear to be getting quite as many complaints as for other issues, but then not everyone gets regularly messages on the site.

I'm getting the annoying message too. I ignored it for a few days - and then I decided to google it.
Seems to be an old problem for "Ancestry" people were getting this message in 2013.

Shhhhh ! My warning banner's gone. ;D
Frank.

I've had this for months now and have aske Ancestry for assistance. They told me it was a problem with my browser and I should delete all my cookies (which was a pain). This did not solve the problem and I get the same message on all the various pcs' tablets etc I use.
If you've got it, you're probably stuck with it...
-
My warning message has also disappeared, sometime between yesterday evening and 02.00 today.
I was using my PC at that time because I couldn't sleep.
Here's hoping it doesn't re-appear.
-
Arrghh! :o :o :o
It's back!!
