Looking for a kind person in the Rochester vicinity who could send me a photo of my relative's gravestone which is at St Nicholas Cemetery. I have all the details/coordinates etc, but I'm a long way away in Australia. Much appreciated if anyone can help.

Hi Billiegirl,
I'm new here so please forgive me if I state the obvious, but have you had a look on Findagrave ?
A link to the cemetery you are asking about is:-
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=2276838
There are 28 pictures listed - you may hit lucky :)

Hi F1fan, welcome to Rootschat! Many thanks for your suggestion. I checked, but unfortunately my Darch relatives aren't one of those mentioned. Its a shame, as this is the only family grave in the UK that we've ever found!
I really appreciate your reply though, as you've bumped this post back up to the top again.
Very best wishes, Billiegirl :)

Hi, I live in cemetery you refer to, if you give me details of grave I will try to locate it

Hello Shareennorfolk - I've just seen your kind offer. Is this your first post? I think you need to make three posts before I can send you a personal message so that you can send me a picture.
The grave details are; St Nicholas, Section [I (alphabetical) 17] Number 339, a flat headstone with James Darch at the top and the names of some of his children, one of which is my gt gt grandmother, Mary Martha. I believe it was getting a bit illegible in 2007 so I don't expect too much, but I would really love to have an image, as its the only relative's grave I've ever found. Many, many thanks, Billiegirl

Hi Billiegirl, yes was first post, will look tomorrow for you, it's not very big graveyard so shouldn't be difficult.
-
Oh that's terrific, thank you. If you make one more post I should be able to PM you.

Hi all, my volunteer photographer seems to have disappeared into the ether!
Can anyone else near Rochester help me out with a pic of this Darch gravestone please?
-
Many thanks Bob for moving this to the Kent board.
Another query about this cemetery that someone might be able to help me with if I may:
I believe my gt gt grandfather James Campbell is also buried there (Medway Archives, St Nic's died April May June 1854) but he is not on the Darch gravestone with his wife Mary Martha.
Any ideas how I can find out if he is in the same grave, or in an unmarked grave in the same/different section?
Thanks for any help
-
Sorry, that should be: James Campbell, buried 14th November 1855.

A very kind person has responded to my request and will have a look for me.

there are quite a few DARCH family in thanet ramsgate kent and a place called st nicholas [st nicholas at wade] is it definitely st nicholas in rochester kent
-
Thanks for that info, Kent boy. The Darches seemed to have moved to Kent from Somerset, and I think some of that branch ended up in Canterbury too.
The lovely lady located the grave of my gt gt grandmother and her father in St Nicholas, so I was very lucky to get photos of the site.
PS: Welcome to Rootschat! :)

Hi, The graveyard in question is right behind my garden so tomorrow 27/01/2016 I will go over and have a look for you. One thing I will mention the graveyard is not looked after at all now and many of the head stones have been laid down and the grass has covered over them some of the graves have been damage by vandals but there are a few left.
All the best Paul
