I recently bought an old studio portrait at an antiques fair. I am keen to pass this on to someone with a connection. The photo is of a small boy Henry Aylmer Coates and was taken at a studio in Lancashire, England.
Having done some preliminary research, this is what I know so far.
Born in Farnworth, Lancashire in 1904.
Emigrated with his parents to Canada in 1908 (Parents are Joshua Frederick Coates and Sarah Larkin)
1911 census shows him in the Kootenay district with parents.
He married on 31st August 1937 to Lillian Vera Fleet in Nelson BC
Lillian died in 1993 in Victoria, but I have not yet found a record for Henry's death. I do not know whether they had any children.
Would anyone like to claim him?

I am wondering if a local genealogy and/or history group in that area might be able to help out?

How about contacting Mountain View Cemetery Vancouver to see if they can tell you if Henry is buried with Lillian ???
http://vancouver.ca/your-government/mountain-view-cemetery.aspx
You could join Find A Grave (free) and create a memorial page for Lillian V Coates at Mountain View Cemetery Vancouver and then request a photograph (if there is one it might mention Henry is buried with her ) - its explained here - How to submit a photo request. Hope this helps.

Mountain View Cemetery has burials listed on the iCemetery app which is available for iPhones and Android smart phones. If you go to that site on your smart phone, there are links at the bottom of the page to download the app. Right now Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver and Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon, SK are the only cemeteries using the app.
Henry Alymer Coates died 31 Dec 1994 and was buried on 6 Jan 1995. Henry and Lillian were interred together.

Thought he might be with Lillian - great find - no other options for those that haven't got iPhones and Android smart phones ;) (Not very tech minded ::))

The Canada Voters list for 1968 has a listing for Henry Coates, DND Jericho, Lillian Coates, housewife and Sandra Coates, volunteer CUSO all at the same address. On the 1964 list, Henry is listed as a store man and Sandra is listed as a student.

Many thanks to you all for your helpful contributions. It sounds as if there may someone to pass this photo on to. Taking your advice, I am contacting a genealogical society to see if they can be of any help. I also wondered what might be the most appropriate newspaper in the area for me to place an enquiry?

Maybe the Vancouver Sun

or Victoria News (from memory - the address on the death cert for Lillian was Victoria)
