Hello,
Richard PARSONS arrived in Auckland on the 25/11/1842 aboard the St. George as a Free Immigrant.
He married 16 year old Mary FAGAN in the Bishop's Chapel, St Patrick's Cathedral, on the 26/03/1855, her parents shown as John and Elizabeth.
He died on 07/07/1887 at Tuapeka Mouth, Auckland, and was buried on 09/07/1887 at Waikumete Cemetery.
I know nothing else about him in NZ, for instance, his children, his occupation, where he lived.
Can anyone help please.

Hello there
On BDM Online I have found Richard James Parsons died 07/07/1887. Burial Locator shows he is buried at Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland.
Also on BDM Online found marriage to Mary Fagan and Richard Parsons on 26/03/1855. No children located.
On Papers Past around the Auckland area found no record of Richard or Mary Fagan .. as yet.
Now the information you have provided for the location of death for Richard Parsons is intriguing.
Tuapeka Mouth is located on the Clutha River 33 kilometres up river from Balclutha in South Otago. I have been there many times. Tuapeka Mouth in South Otago is a long way from the Waikumete Cemetery in Auckland even for 1887.
I can not locate any other place called Tuapeka Mouth near Auckland or elsewhere in New Zealand.
I remain to be corrected.

There is an 1869 death for a 28 yr old Mary
1869/7509 Parsons Mary 28Y

Hi,where did you get the information that he died at Tuapeka Mouth from?
St Patrick's Cathedral is in Auckland and the fact he was buried in Waikumete I suspect your information is wrong he died 7/7/1887 and was buried on the 8th,there is no way they could have transported a body from Tuapeka Mouth to Waikumete in 24 hours
This may be him also in Auckland

Hello Alex and Janette,
Thank you for replying. I am extremely grateful for confirmation of the details. I think Mary's death in 1869 has to be a definite possibility.
The information about his death has been supplied by another researcher so I stand to be corrected. My geography of NZ is limited to an ex-flat mate from Auckland when I lived in Melbourne more years ago now than I care to remember and, most importantly, where the rugby stadiums are. Me being Welsh and all that you know!!!
For the moment,

Thank you Janette,
I warned you about my geographical prowess!!
The items from Papers Past are intriguing in that Mary PARSONS does not appear to have entered a further complaint, although by implication the husband was guilty.
Of course if she was being mistreated then I suppose one has to ask the obvious question as to whether or not it was possible her husband in some small way contributed to her death. I hope not.
For now,
Tony

Janette,
The information I received originally was that he was buried in Plot 56.....should I have mentioned it before?! The researcher who passed me the information initially stumbled across it when he was
seeking details for another person, but it was all he had.
Do you have any idea who the "someone else" he was buried with? Not Mary PARSONS presumably.
For now,
Tony

No it wouldn't be Mary as Waikumete Cemetery didn't open until 1886,it was opened to replace Symonds Street cemetery,I can't see Mary there either,
Cheers Janette

Using Beg's list and the cemetery database this is how it comes out
BERRY, CHARLES Plot: ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 51

ANDERSON, JOHN Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 52

WOODWARD, JAMES Plot : ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 55A

KING, ROBERT Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 56
WALKINGSHAW, IVEY Plot :ANGLICAN DIVISION C Row 2, Plot 56A
Maybe the clue to this in the Walkingshaw burial where her occupation is given as destitute
Edited
On Google maps that row and 2/3rds of the next row has only a handful of headstones which may indicate those graves were for paupers

Hello Beg and Janette,
Thank you for all your efforts. I am so grateful.
Perhaps the enquiries for Richard PARSONS have now been exhausted and I feel there is sufficient detail to complete at least a pen portrait for him. Just one doubt where the second christian name "JAMES" came from??
For the moment,
Tony

Hello,
Re: reply #2-
The death of this Mary Parsons (died 1869) was registered @ Christchurch...........
Minniehaha.
-
Minniehaha,
I am not quite sure what you mean......if the death was registered at Christchurch are you saying it is the wrong person?
Please help!!
Tony
-
Hi Tony,
I don't know whether or not the Christchurch registration means it is the incorrect Mary Parsons. Just throwing a fact about the 1869 death into the mix; for further investigation maybe?
[I have not found her on the Christchurch City Council (cemeteries) website but she may have been buried further afield perhaps?]
Minniehaha. :)

Hi Tony ...
Random thought re James as second name, he may have become Catholic before marrying in St Patrick's Cathedral and picked it up as a confirmation name :-\ .. not obliged to use it of course and most don't but possibility he decided to as no other 2nd name...
:) mare

Hello mare,
Hope you are keeping well.
I had more or less finished researching Richard (James) PARSONS and was going to mark it "TOPIC COMPLETED".........but Minniehaha threw a spanner in the works with her reference to Mary's death being registered in Canterbury. Then I thought again, probably she left him anyway, as he appeared to be a wife-beater (see PapersPast), although Canterbury is a fair distance from Auckland, or was in those days, except I have no way of finding out if that is what she actually did??!!
For now,
Tony
-
Sorry about that spanner Tony. :D
-
At least it was only a spanner.
Someone here who shall remain nameless prefers to throw Jaffas, mumble mumble... ;D
-
Jaffas are wonderful :P :P
