Title: Kingswinford Ancestors
Post by: spitfire28 on Monday 09 March 15 15:45 GMT (UK)
Im not sure if Kingswinford has always been in Staffs or maybe sometime in Worcestershire . I have traced the following marriage and would be greatly obliged if anyone has any further information on either husband or wife. I am assuming that at that period, either or or both parties to a marriage would have been born and resided in the district. Here goes :-

John Bate ( my ancestor ) married Sophia Eastop At St Mary's Church , Kingswinford 3rd October 1796. Page 82 of the Parish Register.

As usual , ALL help appreciated

Did he live until 1851 census? Then hopefully would give a birthplace.

Hi... that was quick  :D. He is on the 1841 Census but not much help there... he was living in Sedgley , Staffs at that time It would appear he had lost Sophia by then .

Hi,

I can't see a John BATE/S in Sedgley in the 1841 census that would be old enough to be the John who was married to Sophia :-\ I can only see a John BATE aged 44 could that be their son?

Regards,
Daisy

Having ancestors in the Dudley/Kingswinford area I understand your confusion and I was born in the Black Country.

Dudley was at one time an enclave of Worcestershire before becoming part of Staffordshire, like the rest of the area. Dudley Castle though, not in Dudley's boundary, was always in Staffordshire - work that one out. I believe Kingswinford was always in Staffordshire until the whole area became the West Midlands.

I have found that my relatives in Kingswinford used Stourbridge and Dudley to register the births and deaths, I routinely check both Dudley and Stourbridge for registrations.

Marriages - Kingswinford comes under the Lichfield diocese and records should be at Stafford.
