Title: Dundee mug shots
Post by: chinakay on Tuesday 10 March 15 01:35 GMT (UK)
The Lost Dundee Facebook page has just posted a bunch of mug shots from 1905. They are people convicted under the drunk and disorderly laws.

What a hard life these poor souls had. Most are women. Most of them have tattoos (initials on forearms, and I wish I knew what the significance was) and several of them have a split earlobe. Many have Irish names.

All of them look at least a decade older than their actual age. I truly feel for them.

Cheers,
China

Afraid I can't help with the significance of the tattoos, but it's definitely interesting. There are some fascinating photos on that page. Thanks for posting about it :)

Everyone in photos from that era looks old by our standards. Take a trip in a TARDIS and see what they say about our photos in 100y time again!

Hang out on the photo board for a while and you'll change your mind :) These people look used up.

Split earlobe? might have had an ear-ring ripped off?

Skoosh.

That's what I was thinking. There are at least 3 of them.

OH told me if you were in the navy, the first thing to go was the earring if you got in a fight.
