Title: Army wedding
Post by: PotHunter on Monday 16 March 15 00:12 GMT (UK)
Hi all

My grandparents were married in Cairo, Egypt in January 1942 during the war. Robert MacKenzie was a Major in the Cape Town Highlanders and Kathleen Joan Merry was in the South African Nursing Services. They apparently met on the boat from South Africa!  I found the transcription of the GRO index Army Marriages which gives a page and line number but I was wondering where I go next!  To whom do I apply for a copy of the certificate?

I would guess that a Major getting married would be quite a big event. Any ideas where I would find any more info?  The Cape Town Highlanders website is not the most helpful resource I've ever come across.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Colin

I have seen quite a few marriages of both Australian and British participants married during wartime abroad published in either the bride's or the groom's (or both) home newspapers but two South Africans?
