I am a first time user and thought I had submitted a request for information.  Did I submit to the wrong list?  Can you help me (1) with the information and (2) with the correct way to ask for document research?

Thank you for your patience.

If this information was obtained from FindMyPast, then the entries make reference to indexes held at the National Archives at Kew.

Have you read this leaflet?

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/death-duty-records-1796-to-1903.htm

and this

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/deathduty.htm?WT.lp=rg-3122

According to the Somerset Archives website, many wills were destroyed during WW2

http://www1.somerset.gov.uk/archives/Wills.htm

If the wills you seek don't survive, then other sources of information can be used such as local newspapers which often reported the details of wills.

If there is other informtion tht you are looking for, please let us know.

New users can find that requesting information is tricky, we have a guide here

Thank you for the included information.  I have previously read the references you had included.  I have been unsuccessful in finding my information on the national site.  Is there a way to attach documents (jpg) so you can see what I actually have (which I believe came from FindMyPast)?

Thanks for you help.

Although the main collection of Somerset wills was indeed destroyed, copies survive of wills from between 1813 and 1857 that were made for Estate Duty purposes. The Somerset RO has an online index of those and it includes the three wills asked for.

The will copies themselves are not online but can be seen at Taunton. If no-one volunteers to look them up for you, you can order copies by post through the RO's research service.

I will wait to see if there is a volunteer before ordering the copies.  Are the death duty index entries I have referencing the same information that just happens to be in national archives?

Thank you David!

David (DRH123), will the records within IR26 at the national archives include any information that would not be available in the records at Taunton.

Thanks again for you help.

I can look at the wills for you, but due to work commitments I won't be able to go for a week or two...
