Title: Need Help finding my German Ancesters (Goebert)
Post by: susan42 on Thursday 26 March 15 20:28 GMT (UK)
Hi All
I also need help in finding German ancestors. I know that Ernest Augustus Goebert was born in Hannover in 1841 and as a seaman he came to Scotland where he married Elizabeth Spurrier in Greenock in 1865. His father was Frederick Ludowick Ernest Goebert; his mother Louisa Rampenthal born about 1815 in Germany. I cannot find out anything else about Frederick or Louisa. I would be grateful for any suggestions as to where I might look. Thank you. Susan

Have you tried the Anglo German Family History Society?

Hi Susan,
one excellent web site is http://www.germanroots.com/emigration.html

My ancestors came from Germany in 1893 and the information about the emigration is on the site.

another hint is that your ancestor may be spelt Göbert rather than Goebert.

happy hunting

Hello Susan,
I have now finished researching my German relatives. I speak and read German fairly well. I am one quarter German and I may be able to help.

You also have a reply from Betty - she lives in Germany and may be able to help more as she is in the country.

For like-minded people, the Anglo German Family History Society is very good - I was a member for some time and they send you an english monthly bulletin. They also have information lists that you can consult - this was mentioned by nanny Jim below too.

If you cannot find information online, you could contact the Town Hall of Hannover. This is because BMD are held where the person lived.

Here is another link to try: https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Hannover_Online_Genealogy_Records

good luck with your research
Ken

That’s very helpful thank you. I have already been in touch with Betty who was most helpful. I will explore all possibilities and let you know how I get on. The Goebert are fairly distant relatives but interesting😊.
Thanks again
