The County Donegal DNA Project Page is now set up on www.FamilyTreeDNA.com, for those who have taken DNA tests.
The purpose of the County Donegal DNA Project will be to promote and encourage the use of genetics in genealogy in order to prove family relationships in County Donegal.
The Project will be aimed at Donegal people living in Donegal with a Donegal pedigree (at least four grandparents) and would include Donegal people in Derry; Strabane; and other adjoining border towns.
It is not for those who may have some Donegal ancestry. However in the long term it should be beneficial to those who may have some Donegal ancestry
The DNA results of all members will be available to see and compare. In addition you will be able to post to the page and ask questions about the results.
Contact can be made at donegaldna[AT]gmail.com.

Can you help?

OK found it!
I had applied to join a while ago but I did not fit the criteron.
Thanks anyway.

The People we test must have a Donegal Pedigree. However those who have tested elsewhere and have a reasonable Donegal Pedigree will be admitted

Hi, thanks for replying.
Tested with FTDNA and found a significant amount of matches (autosomal) from Donegal, Quinn, McLaughlin, McGlynn, Given, Duffy, Lafferty, Boyle, and more, most about 4th or 5th generations+ so quite a distance.
Definately from my scottish maternal side from West & SW Scotland probably the Ulster plantations? No family tree to Ulster, rather hoping to a connection from Ulster to Scotland but I think that the time distance is too great so I will not be able to contribute to your project except for my autosomal DNA.

Hi all - i am interested in this thread for two reasons -
I have two family lines back to Donegal - both probably from Scottish planters.
McClure from Killynure/Convoy and Creighton/Craiton/Crayton from who knows where in Donegal.
Secondly i have had my DNA done thru FTDNA.
Is this enough to be involved - where to from here?
cheers

I cannot see a match in FTDNA in my Family Finder (autosomal) DNA.
If you have tested your autosomal then it looks like we do not match.
-
Would you please post a link to the "County Donegal DNA Project" page?
Thanks

The County Donegal DNA Project page was on www.IrishAncestors.net which was hosted by Rootsweb which is currently offline.

Does anyone know if this FTDNA group is still active? Anyone in contact with Sean Quinn?

The County Donegal DNA Project is ongoing and around 180 persons in total have been tested.
Due to the large volume of e mails it is not possible to reply to all. Most e mails received do not state whom they match.
The focus is upon those tested and establishing the connection between them in addition to testing new connected persons.

Hello Magh Ithia,
I have Donegal Ancestry, My Paternal Grandmother was from Ballyshannon as were her parents, Great Grandparents, My Paternal Grandfather was from Derry City, but his parents, great grandparents were from Muff & St. Johnston, Co. Donegal.
My siblings and I have done Ancestry DNA and my brothers DNA results on Ancestry link him specifically to the Inishowen Peninsula. He was the only one of us with that result. We all have the same parents!!
We have uploaded to Family Tree DNA so would we qualify for Inclusion into the Donegal DNA Project?
Ballycarton.
