Title: George Millard
Post by: mamor on Monday 30 March 15 15:28 BST (UK)
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has access to Sussex baptism records.  I am interested in knowing the occupation of George Millard's father John Millard.  George was baptised 1 Jan 1815 in Wisborough Green, Sussex, mother is Jane.  (Ancestry doesn't have the actual image).

I am basically trying to see if he is connected to John Millard baptised in Bramley, Surrey in 1816 - son of John and Jane as I can find no other trace of the family in Bramley.  John's father John was a Canalman.

Many thanks in advance for any help :-)

Certainly possible!

The Wey and Arun Canal joined the River Arun at Pallingham, near Wisborough Green, and ran through Bramley, too.
Opened completely in 1816, it closed in 1871.

Possibly a change of abode going with a change in occupation  :)

Thank you for looking, not sure now that there's a connection given the difference in occupations - I will keep looking - they must appear somewhere else!! :-)

Hi,

I noticed your interest in the Williams family in Hampshire.  My Williams family was located in the Salehurst, Etchingham area of Sussex, but there were occasional forays into Hampshire.

Any of your folks from the Salehurst area??

Jann

OOPS.

Upon rereading I see that Freemantle is your Hampshire family, not Williams.

Hi Jann,

No worries - some of my husband's Williams ancestors spent time in Hampshire - but they were Travellers, mainly stopped off in Berkshire and Oxfordshire.  :-)
