Title: for dating please - Another couple of school photos -
Post by: Wiggy on Tuesday 31 March 15 09:28 BST (UK)
I think these are likely to be early 20th Century - but I am often wrong . . . . . I can't recognise anyone in the photo.

Seem to be mainly girls - possibly a boy or two??

1910ish, maybe a couple of years earlier is my guess.

Thanks George.

If one of my MiL's family is in this lot then it would be a little later - she was born in 1908 - but then I don't know if she was -  in the photo I mean.   She was the eldest in her family.

Could be some of her Uncles and Aunts I think - they were born during the mid 1890s.  They would fit your time frame, wouldn't they.

As they aren't my family I really don't know.

I'd say all girls ... and will agree with early 20th century, bit of scope there  :)

yes - it would seem silly to have only one boy in a class wouldn't it.  And I can only see one possible boy in each photo - so girls with short hair then.     ;)

Thanks Mare.

The giant hair bows may be a clue:

They must have been SOOOO annoying to wear!   ;D ;D

Thanks Nova67   :)   Good clue - I was wondering about those bows as I posted. ;)

If it's a borderless postcard which it looks like would make it most probably pre war but not by much in that blouse.1912 & possibly into WW1.

Thanks Jim - that puts them in the time frame I was hoping for, to be MiL etc!    ;)

I did a silly thing and cropped off what very little I could see of the surrounds - forgetting how you needed everything for dating -  my son took photos (with his phone) of the photos in an album - I think any backing I could see was album, so yes probably borderless.

Mare, the girl featured on your avatar has a similar 'bow in her hair...could that be a clue as to date?

:D Ha ... I've just seen this, big bows seem to feature in some of my 50's class photos too, they seem to come and go don't they, like the big bow clips 80s/90s.
Those giant bows for children did seem to be pretty commonplace though earlier in the century for some years.

;D ;D ;D   Don't think Mare is quite so old!   ;) ;)
Perhaps take it as an April Fool joke, noting the date  ;D
