Hi glen,
If he participated in WW1, he may have a service file at the Canadian National Archive. You would be able to locate his attestation papers for free there. His service file would be fee based, but the cost of copies is reasonable per page rate. Unfortunately the archive link is down at the moment.
Here is another link to check out: http://www.canadaatwar.ca/
Would this be your fellow?
John William Butcher
Birth: 27 Jan 1873 - Staffordshire, England
Death: 20 Mar 1936 - East York, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Spouse: Minnie Breckles
There are 8 children shown in ths family tree.
Hope this helps,
JDC

I am really grateful, thank you.How do i find the childrens names, are they on the link which is down?

Hi glen,
Looks like he was in the military. If you go to the National Archive, you will be able to get his attestation document. Here is the info I found:
Name: John William Butcher
Birth Date: 27 Jan 1873
Birth Location: Wednesbury, Staffordahire, England
Relative: Minnie Butcher
Regiment Number: 172112
I am assuming this is your man for now :-)...Let me know, if other wise.

Hi Glen,
No they would be on that site. You should be able to find them on our census records - they go up to 1921 right now. You should be able to get the birth records for those born up to 100 years ago (1915) - that is due to privacy laws in Canada restriction after that time-frame.
Again hope this helps.

Hi Glenn11,
Just so we aren't confused National Archive Canada was renamed to LAC (Library and
Archives Canada)
LAC is in the process of digitizing all WW1 complete service files and they will be available
for free. So.....some luck for you, his complete file has been digitized ;D You can see his
service file here, right side of the page, click on the link PDF. It is very slooow loading.

Hi,
You're very welcome Glen. Normally the privacy laws hinder some searches for relatives but you were very lucky, especially RK finding those Obituary notices for you.
Regards
Sandra ;)

Noticed the 1911 census which I gave in reply 19 shows on ancestry under the surname Badcher. Badly mis-transcribed as you can see below. ::)
John, Minnie and Lillian immigrated in 1901.
John W Badcher 37 January 1876- In the column - works at - it says Waggon.
Nenrel Badcher 35 May 1876
Leler M Badcher 13 August 1897
Claya Badcher 9 February 1902
Amie Badcher 3 September 1907
George J Badcher 17 days March 1911

Hi glenn11
This is a link to the Toronto City Directories, coverage is patchy and they are only up to 1922.
http://torontofamilyhistory.org/researching-toronto-ancestors/city-directories/
I had a quick look at the 1919 and 1921
1919 - Butcher John W., driver, h 1 Ivy Ave.
https://archive.org/stream/torontodirec191900midiuoft#page/610/mode/2up
1921 - Butcher John W., express and cartage, 1 Ivy Ave.
https://archive.org/stream/torontodirec192100midiuoft#page/626/mode/2up
My guess ??? for express agent would be driver/courier.
Cheers,
DB
