Title: Lewis Jack 1851 census
Post by: Joyful on Tuesday 31 March 15 22:10 BST (UK)
Hi
I would appreciate some help in finding Lewis JACK in the 1851 census, he would be approximately
24 yrs and born Avoch Ross & Cromarty.
He married Margaret FRASER in 1849 in Forres/Speymouth Moray. He was a blacksmith.
In 1851 census Margaret with daughter Margaret 23mths is in Cullen Banff but no Lewis.
1861 census all the family is in Kintore Aberdeen and in 1871 all the family is in Glasgow.
He may not be in the county of Aberdeen, he could be anywhere and I've widened my search but still can't find him.
To make things difficult there are lots of Lewis JACKS and most of them born in Avoch.

Thanks

Joy

Joyful, a possible mis transcription from a/try in 1851:

William Strachan 29
Grace Strachan 23
Jean Strachan 10 Months
Jean Cruickshank 20
Lerois Jack 25 servant black smith b. Avoch, Rosshire
Address: Smithie, Turriff, Aberdeenshire

Worth checking on www.freecen.org.uk

You've done it again Monica ;) :-* I think that must be him except he says

that he's unmarried but perhaps he got confused ;D ;D

What search parameters did you use ? 'Cause I obviously was using the wrong ones :-\

Many, many thanks

Joy

FreeCEN http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl has him correctly transcribed. Also marks him as unmarried. You should plan to check the original at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk to make sure that you agree with the transcription.
