My ggg-grandfather was Ewan MacAuley from Moray. He was born in 1833 at Cromdale and Inverallan And Advie, Inverness. He married Mary Smith (b.1826) in 1857 in Nethy Bridge. They immigrated to Canada in around 1860 (although I haven't found any sources to confirm) and settled in Lambton County, Ontario.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Welcome to RootsChat :).
In the 1861 Canada census, Ewan and Mary already have 2 children who were born in Canada West (as Ontario was known at the time). Their son John is 3 and daughter Margaret is 1. This would suggest the couple left Scotland quite soon after their marriage.

Added: had it typed so will post.

There are no comprehensive nominal lists of immigrants arriving in Canada before 1865.

this will seem a bit off the wall, but i know clues sometime come from odd places. in Burlington, VT in U.S., until the late 1990's, Trinity College, run by the Catholic Sisters of Mercy had been a well respected school for many decades. One of the dorms was McCauley Hall named after a Sister McCauley, a driving force behind the early years of the school. with its proximity to Canada, and knowing many nuns were originally from Canada, i read your post and thought hmmmm......? anyway, luck to you.
