This for a friend. First place name on the list. We have tried to decipher and look at local areas but can't come up with anything. Any ideas gratefully received. There's a possibility it could be in Much Dewchurch area but that's not certain.

Good find Ray - you could be correct
LLANCILLO, a parish in the district and county of Hereford; on the river Monnow

Parmesan - Do you have James on the 1861 census, did it give his pob?
-
Thanks all, I will pass this on and see what he thinks?
On 1861 just says Hereford, K N

looks like Lleannitts to us too ;D
-
I was thinking Llannitto - pretty sure its meant to be Llan-something
-
I agree with Ray, I had Llancillo written on my pad but he beat me to it ;D
-
I agree with the Llan bit, not sure about the end. It looks like tt and ending in s though I know census writing isn't an exact science ;D
-
Further digging, UK census has the entry for Llanetts,
James Joy 65 Labourer Monmouthshire 1786 Llanetts, Herefordshire

You sure it's NOT . . . . .
K N for "knot nown"
;D ??? ;D
-
do you know, that's how I kept reading it at first ;D
-
I see it as Hereford. Not known.
I will look at the names of some of the large estates, why do we think it's near much dewchurch, is that the previous place on the census.

No, but there is a likely baptism at Much Dewchurch for James Joy, but its not a definite.
