Title: Edinburgh Burgesses
Post by: AncesStory on Saturday 18 April 15 23:12 BST (UK)
I’m posting some helpful sources for researching Scottish burgesses – due to my Edinburgh heritage, my main interest has been the rolls relating to Edinburgh, but I have included other places too. Most of them will be known, but it’s handy to have them in one place. First post will be of Edinburgh sources:

The following rolls provide the "right of burgess-ship or guild-brotherhood" (through the father's, spouse's father or apprentice master's name, noblesse oblige) , profession, date, etc.

Roll of Edinburgh Burgesses and Guild-Brethren, 1406-1700, ed. Charles B. Boog Watson.  Edinburgh: Scottish Record Society, 1929.
