Hi again, I am just wondering why I cannot locate the baptism of David (John) b c 1731 your direct ancestor?
Also, why do the first 3 have a mention of middle name John, and not the 2 I located?
Also where did the information come from that they had 5 children if you did not have the mothers name?

Hi
thank you so far for all the information very grateful.

I have the information of the children from another member on ancestry who is also researching this family, he has given me the info I have so far, but I am trying to verify the details so am remaining open minded. I am hoping to speak to him again this week to see if he can verify anything with source information.
I have found the marriage record of David John to Elizabeth Evans myself.

I have also wondered about the name John as a middle name. I am remaining open minded as to whether these children may be from another parent or even that John Llewelin may have remarried?

I am hoping also to visit the carmarthen record office in the next month to look up info but trying to gain as much as I can before the visit as it is some distance away.

It looks like the mothers name may be Mary from the info you have found so am going to look into this as well.

thank you again for all your help everyone it is much apreciated

regards Liz  :)

Might it be that the first children were patronymic (had the surname John after the father) but the last two were christened in the Anglicised way with his "surname"? The children might not even have used the surname they were christened under, it could have been whim of the vicar.

Hello,
My mother's family (Llewellyns) are from Llandeilo and Llandybie parishes. (The spelling of the surname varies during the 18th and 19th centuries). My 4x grandfather was Evan Llewelyn (1763-1835) and I am descended form his son David. Another son of Evan's was Rees Llewelyn (1795-1832) who lived at Nantycreigle, and leased Llwyn yr Haf and Abernant farms on the mountain above Glanaman. One of Rees's sons was John Llewelyn (about 1832-1891) and by his time the family had leased more land in the area. One of the farms in the area was Bryn Llwyn yr Haf (now known as Cwmberach Isaf), where Llewelyns still farm.

I have not fully researched this line of Llewelyns, but I hope that the above scant information is of some interest. Mr Howell Llewelyn of Cwmberach passed away recently and is buried at Hen Fethel, as are many of the Llewelyns in my ancestry.

Regards,

Eurig Llewellyn davies

Hi Eurig

Thank you so much for the information, fascinating when you hear family details.

This though seems to throw up more questions than answers for me, you  have William and Magdalen as Evans parents so I think he is not the same Evan that I have in my tree as David John Llewelin and Elizabeth are my Evans parents.

However the information about Bryn Llwyn yr Haf seems to be the same as that I have, so I think it is highly likely that the families are somehow related.

I wonder if you know whether William may be related to my David John and his siblings as above? or going back further are williams parents John Llewelin and possibly a Mary.

I still have a lot of checking to do  with sources but all the info I have received so far has been invaluable so thank you everyone

Liz  :)

Hi John
thanks for taking an interest in my post
I found it interesting to note your  family info I haven't looked at this stem of the family for some time as I am not convinced that they are part of my tree.Reading your info I think more and more that they are not. I will look at it again over the next few weeks and get back to you if I find a connection. thanks again for your interest and time.
regards
Liz

I understand the thread is a few years old but does anyone have any more information on David John Llewellin (my 5 times Great Grandfather).  I believe his daughter Gwenllian Jeremiah (who is buried with her husband and parents att Hen Fethel) lived in Pantycoedcae farm and this farms was very close to other Llewellyn farms (Nantycreigle and Gelli Fawnen i think).

Also does anyone have some additional info on Bryn Llwyn Yr Haf (Cwmberach Isaf) as another ancestor 4th Great Grandparents (Richard and Anne James (Lake) were on the property on the 1841 Census.
