Title: John Chisholm & Margaret Scott Wilton, Roxburgh
Post by: Loanhead on Thursday 30 April 15 10:11 BST (UK)
Hi
Am looking for the family line in Roxburgh. I know that John Chisholme married Margaret Scott on 18 July 1736 in Wilton, Roxburgh. This suggests they were born around 1716. On the marriage record it gives Margaret's father as "Laird of Sinton Scott" can anyone help me with working out who he was?
Have found 4 children from the marriage - John b 1737, William b 1749, Alexander b 1741 and Gilbert b. 1743 all born Wilton. All help and suggestions appreciated.

looking at the children's names/dates it would suggest that Margaret's father was called Gilbert

general naming pattern in the area is 1st son Father's father 2nd son Mother's father (but i can be visa versa in some cases, but rare)
