I have her as Annie Maria Goodman who married Stephen Wright in Dec 1872. Stephen decends from Charles & Ruth Wright.  In 1911 she living with son Arthur & wife plus other son Frederick & wife. The other 2 sons seem to have gone to Canada - might have to check passenger records.

Thanks for that John. I had, as you can imagine, already got her in my tree!

Her children where not the only villagers to go to Canada from the Wright family.

Thanks for that John. I had, as you can imagine, already got her in my tree!

Her children where not the only villagers to go to Canada from the Wright family. John Goodman Wright and Walter seem to be the Canada travellers. Did they travel at the same time as George and Lilian? Maybe.

The names of the Mourners are also interesting, the Seamark family for example where linked to the wrights through the marriage of George to Ann seamarks, who then emigrated to Australia

Now would you like a challenge?

Mike

From Beds Times of 17th Sept 1937.... seems Walter went to USA not Canada.... his widow must be Evelyn who sent a wreath as detailed in funeral report. It was John Goodman Wright that went to Canada, again wreath from John & Mirry & children. Daughter Elizabeth must have married a Mr Lenton, again wreath from Bessie, Arthur, Jack & Sonny.

While you are in the mood for looking at old newspapers, i found this entry on "findmypast"

pretty wedding: took place at All Saints', Wellingborough, on the 30th. The bride Miss .Edith Annie, second daughter ol Mr. William Wright, of Astwood, and the bridegroom William Albert, second son of Mr. Reuben Wright, of Astwood. The bride was
08 November 1901 - Bedfordshire Times and Independent - Bedford, Bedfordshire, England

I can't read the whole article as i am not subscribed to the site, but its an interesting find.

Essentially these two where related, albeit cousins. Edith, the daughter of William, who is a son of John and Francis Wilding (Ann Wilding's sister as we know) John is William and Ann Faulkner's son, and this William is of course the son of Charles and Ruth and the brother of Charles, another of Charles and Ruth's sons.

This charles of course, who married Ann Bason, had a son John born in 1797 who, as we know marries Ann Wildin.

There son Eli has a son Reuben who is the father of William.

I certainly occured to me this was the case but its the first actual proof i have seen.

My brain hurts now..... !!!!

Thanks Mike - I have the couple living in Welingborough on 1911 census with 4 children born there 1903 to 1910. I had the marriage in Dec qtr 1901 but this report confirms the family connection, both parties descending from Charles & Ruth. The report has Edith's sisters Emily & Mabel being her bridesmaids.

So following the death of Mrs Stephen Wright .... it seems that Reuben Wright was the next oldest inhabitant of Astwood, from Beds Times 11 Aug 1939

So the mourners,

Mrs A Stott is Mabel Agnes, she had two illegitamate daughters and spent time in the workhouse while her children where looked after by Reuben and Sarah.

Mr and Mrs F Evans are actually one of Mabel's Daughters, Maud and her Husband.

Mr and Mrs G Wright is George and Rosa.

Mrs F Litchfield might be Mabel's other daughter Florence.

Annie Wright, another daughter married Edmund hobbs?

D Wright is Daisy Blanch Wright

W Wright is probably William as i had Walter dying young.

Mr T Wright? Don't know who he is either....

Mike

Did your Leonard Wright die Dec qtr 1961 age 70 as per death index in North Bucks RD

Albert Edward Stott married Agnes Mabel Wright in Jun 1909 in Bedford RD ref 3b/694  In 1911 in Rugby Warwicks is an Agnes Mabel Stott age 28 born Astwood, married to Albert Edward Stott age 27 born Walworth London, they've been married for 2 years.

Did daughter Mary Jane Wright marry Frederick J Litchfield in Newport Pagnell RD in Sept 1915

She was, i believe christened mabel agnes but this is the same person, i have had contact with her ancesters.

Mrs Litchfield, yes i think this is more likely.

Leonard was married and died in 1961. The decor in his former home is from this period.

Mike.

Mike - there's another, seems the Wright family of Astwood lived to a great age... from Beds Times of 8 April 1938; Mrs C Wright died aged 93.  Reckon this is Jane Dunkley who married Charles Wright on 1 Jan 1867 at Astwood.  They had 10 children, 32 grand-children & 33 great-grand-children.

"Agnes right, single woman, of Astwood, applied the magistrates to grant order against Walter Wright, of Northampton, for him to contribute towards the maintenance of her illegitimate child, of "

Apparently the case was dismissed.

Who is this Walter Wright of Northampton? This report was from Beds Times of 14 Mar 1902, the child in question might well be Florence born 1901. If case was dismissed was it because Walter James son of Stephen Wright had gone off to Detroit, he was there from 1902 (been there 35 years when he died in 1937).

Mabel Agnes Wright, In 1901 she was 20, an inmate in Newport Pagnell union Workhouse.

Maud, who we think is one of her daughters is listed with Reuben and sarah, Florence is not there, but she is on the 1901 cencus. I have always assumed the two girls where sisters and that Florence was born in Union workhouse after the census was published.

So back to our Walter. Well her brother Walter should be 16 in 1901 but he seems to have vanished. I need to confirm it but it seems he dies as a child.

Walter James seems likely as he is in Detriot but the Walter in the article is from Northampton. In 1901 Walter James is at home.

Now there is a Walter born in North Crawley in 1875. His parents, Alfred Wright and Catherine (Clarke) as living in Northampton in 1881 but i cant find him in 1901

Maybe, I may have missed one or two. Why did you take them, are they in your research?

Hi Mike they may be a link to my son's family on his father's side way back and very very distant. But I have a local link to village as I grew up from a very young age until my late twenties in the village and I am very proud of this and the strong community spirit that it had.  These were taken a few years ago when I was back in the village for Christmas and the church as due to close.

The Wright family I traced back to 1700 or so in the village, and at one time certainly all of the Wright's in the village where related, and all the Wright graves except one all seem to be relatives. Church records show most of them attended St Peters for a fair few years. There should be more Wright graves than there actually appear to be.

One of my longest surviving direct relatives living in the village was Leonard, he lived in the now derilect cottages on the other side of the A422 to Astwood.
