Title: Travelling between Neilston and Lochwinnoch 1800s
Post by: Gray865 on Monday 18 May 15 19:50 BST (UK)
Would there be different routes used from present day to travel between Neilston and Lochwinnoch?
I only know of via Paisley and it would seem such a distance to travel in those bygone days. Gray865

You don't say exactly when in the 1800s you are interested in but from about the mid 1840s onwards it was possible to do the journey by train, changing at Kilbirnie.

Oh dear!!!!  I did forget about trains. The time span I'm interested in is 1790 -1830. As in today there is the right to roam, would inhabitants of either village go cross country?  Would anybody know if this happened.  Gray865

I would imagine by foot or  horseback or coach or pony and trap on the toll roads Neilston - Uplawmoor - Lugton - West to Bowfield - Castle Semple - Lochwinnoch. Not too far really about 12 miles

After looking at maps, it appears to make sense.  Thanks deebel
