Fresh eyes needed please to look for Sarah Jane FOSTER & husband William after 1884.
Sarah Jane STUTELY (Nee TRIM) married William FOSTER 21st Sept 1884, in Strood, Kent. I can't find any trace of them after that.
Sarah Jane was born 1864, Ashling, Sussex. William born 1861 (age 23 at marriage) place unknown.
I'd like to find out what happened to Sarah Jane as this marriage was bigamous (the first one I've found) she claimed to be a widow at her marriage to William, but her first husband was still alive & died 1885.
I'm aware of a Sarah Jane born 1863 & husband William N FOSTER, but I'm sure they can be discounted as there is a marriage, in 1890, for a Sarah Jane to a William Nelson FOSTER so it must be this couple on the censuses.
I would be grateful for any help in finding Sarah Jane & William on the 1891 census & after.

Hi
What was William Fosters occupation on the 1884 marriage cert and his fathers name and occupation?
-
Hi CaroleW
I found the marriage on FreeReg2, it gives William's occupation as Carman, his father's name was George, occupation farm labourer.

Bit of an odd one
1891 Ashford Kent
Elizabeth Hawkins 26
Sidney Hawkins 3
John Hawkins 6/12
Connie Waide 23
Sarah Jane Hawkins 29
Sarah Jane Foster in brackets and looks like a separate household to me but she is on her own as wife born Rye Sussex.
Not many Sarah Jane's born Sussex to choose from so might be worth checking out if only to eliminate.

1891 Sarah Jane Foster and William N Foster living at Ore, Hastings.
1901 Sarah Foster and William Foster living at Guestling, Hastings with 3 children William, Beatrice and Herbert.

Sadly, this is the wrong couple. Betty mentions them in her post -William Nelson Foster and Sarah Jane Creasey.

Thank you all for looking. I've found the Sarah Jane born Rye on the 1911 Census, with husband Edward, so it looks like she can be ruled out.
Perhaps her run of bad luck continued & William died & she married again...I'll keep looking, I'm determined to find her!

Hi Heywood
Sarah Jane & Edward are living in Hoo, Kent. Edward is the same age as Sarah Jane (born 1864) occupation farm labourer, married 21 years, no children.

Thanks Betty. She must be Sarah Jane Crampton.

That fits with the years married on the 1911 Census.
I can't find a likely death for William & another marriage for Sarah Jane, so that theory has hit a brick wall! I wonder if the authorities found out about the bigamous marriage & she went to prison, perhaps she changed her name upon being released.
I'll try looking for her under her maiden name, after that I'm out of ideas.

I tried looking for her with her other names but no success. She could have been mistranscribed though. She could have also given a different place of birth. if I have the right Trim family, the children were born in different places. She may not have lived in Ashling very long.

She was baptised in Funtington, Sussex.
Nothing would surprise me, she lied about her age at her first marriage, lied about being a widow & her age again on her second marriage.
