I have a death certificate for a Thomas Berryman who died on the 13 December 1898 at Hokitika New Zealand on it, it states that his father was Job and mother was Jane Wilmott, was this Job any connection to do with Berryman of Zennor, and if so what other family members where there
-
When / where was Thomas born
Could this be relevant :-\

This one:
Thomas Berryman age 65 buried 15th December 1898, Anglican, Westland, West Coast, Hokitika, New Zealand
Cemetery Orowaiti
-
Yes, ages match.
However, there are quite a few Thomas Berryman's around Cornwall.
-
1841 census at Uny Lelant has Job and Wilmot, both age 35, he is a tin miner, with a large family (ancestry has them as Bingham)
Children:
Job 12
Cathrine 10
Thomas 7
Wilmot 6
Fredrick 4
Elizabeth 3
Joseph 2
Grace 6 Mo

Think Jane Wilmott is not the same person as:
England select marriages
Job Berryman married 11th October 1828 Madron Cornwall, spouse Wilmot Reynolds
FHL Film Number: 0962269 IT 1, 236552, 254189, 254192, 254193, 254194, 90257
There are quite a few Wilmott Berrymans in the censuses.
So need Job and Jane with Thomas?
-
There is a shipping record for Thomas Berriman age 8 son of Job and Jane Berriman in 1878 on the familysearch shipping records.
Could this be the family you are seeking?
Regards Crowsfeet
-
so is Jane and Wilmott the same person or not, as on the death certificate it states
Mother first name Jane
Surname Berryman
Surname/name at birth Wilmott
and Thomas was 65 and he had lived in new zealand for 36 years

Thomas died in 1898 age 65 which makes his birth year c1833. That eliminates the shipping record of an 8 year old Thomas in 1878.
If Thomas had lived in NZ for 36 years when he died then he went there c1862. We should be able to find him in the UK 1841/51 and maybe 1861. ???

staplehouse,
How does Thomas Berryman, died 1898, fit into your family?
Which Berrymans from Zennor do you have connections to?
-
my berryman from zennor are connected to me as my greatgrandfather mother Zenobia Thomas was aBerryman and in my grandmother collection there is a large photo album which would have belong to my greatgrandfather photos of the family sadly there is no names on the back of each photo, but there is two there that was taken in Hokitka and I have been in touch with the Hokitka research centre there and they have foward me a link to the cemetery. these two photos are not the same fellow, they look like brothers.
this family that arrival in NZ in 1878 witha Thomas age 8 can not be the same as he was in NZ for 36 years, the maths do not add up
thank you all so far for your help
-
Reply 13 on your other post suggests he may have gone to NZ in 1858

There is this Thomas doing military service, so would not be there in 1851 , but probably unrelated, just put here for consideration

Hi there
after spending most of the spare time over the holiday weekend trawling databases - actually make that trailing - "captain Tom" is proving elusive to say the least. Without a definite pob or spelling thanks to enumerators etc., there's always a choice of two or more.
The PROV record of the "Caspian" in 1858 is arithmetically OK but there is nothing definite on Cornwall opc and the Cornwall census is also as informative - but as an aside fantastic site and always my first port of call - There maybe something brewing though in Devon if someone with census access proper could have a look see.
I think the dates given have to be taken as they were given, which from how i read the newspaper entries is what Thomas' friends were told by Thomas!
Sorry i have added zilch here but not being able to confirm baptism etc or census entry this is proving to be a challenge my spare time can't crack at present

Hi Tom,
Emily Thomas, daughter of William Thomas and Angelina Hutchens, was my great-grandmother. She married Stephen Polglase, from whom my maternal grandfather, Henry, and mother, Vilma Virginia, descended. Very interested to hear of the Aus connection - had no inkling of this, so thanks for sharing!
-
