This free service is from Mocavo. The actual url is over 300 characters, so I put it in a tiny url:
http://preview.tinyurl.com/m3pyozh
Scroll down to "proceed to this site"
-
If you remove the word "preview." from the above address, you'll go directly to the website.
-
That's definitely handy! Is there any easy way to copy the whole image?
-
That's weird that you can't copy the image. I did find if you take a screenshot and then go into paint (Microsoft), you can paste it there. Then I assume you can make a copy from that.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-xp/help/setup/take-a-screen-shot
I see this says it is for XP: I have Windows 8 and I just pulled up the tiles, searched for Paint and was able to do it.
Whatever is on the screen will transfer. Make sure you minimize the bottom index and don't click on anyone, or that screen on the right will pop up.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing but I have to take two shots to get the whole sheet. Still worth it, though.

You only need the front part of the "long url". Just this bit:
http://www.mocavo.com/1790-1940-United-States-Census/126199
The rest is just their tracking info.
-
If you minimize the "index" at the bottom, then zoom out 1 click, that shows the whole image. However, if you try to increase the zoom in "paint" it tends to blur the image. Maybe you should copy the info onto a blank census sheet. At least the images are there to see for the 1860, 1910, and 1930 censuses, which aren't included on other websites.
-
Thanks S.C. That should definitely make it easier to access.

I'd just rather paste two screen grabs together so as to get the sheet at larger size. It's going to take a while, but bit by bit I will replace the transcriptions I have saved with the scanned images.

I've just discovered your posts on how to take a picture of the image. From Windows 7+ there is a neat function Snipping Tool all part of Windows and you can snip the image, copy it and paste wherever. Just put 'snipping tool' into the Search box.

Hi
I think you can download United States census images from https://familysearch.org/ (https://familysearch.org/) I have only checked a couple of years but it does appear you can download images from all years.

Thanks for your post, yes you can, I was referring to some earlier posts when people were talking about using Paint in Msoft to get images. As I've said the snipping tool is wonderful.

That Mocavo link now leads to the collaboration site with FindMyPast, which I'm pretty sure means that you have to pay to see any images now.
However, as Andy mentioned above, I have also found a couple of US census record images freely available on FamilySearch - don't know whether they're all there or not.

The original post was from a few years ago. Familysearch.org is probably the easiest place to view the US census for free.
