Title: Clara Leighton
Post by: SWH1 on Monday 01 June 15 20:23 BST (UK)
Clara was a nurse in ww1 at Salonika, i also found in a file that she was from Aberdeen. I have had a look on some of the ancxxxxy sites and it look promising. She did have a brother called Robert, before the war they were both working and living in Glasgow's Crosshill area also gave a address of Victoria rd in Glasgow. Can anyone tie them in together please? would be most grateful.

She was working at Lochiel Aux Hospital in Inverness in 1915. But that looks like its maybe Invernesshire at that hospital was near Fort William.

Hi Alan

Is this the possible family you are seeing for Clara and the link to Aberdeenshire?

From 1901, everyone born in Aberdeen apart from James Snr - as transcribed, so spelling what it is  ::) :

James Leighton 65 church officer b. Kincardinshire, Banchorn Leman
Barbara Leighton 42
Clara Leighton 15 servant
Maggie Leighton  11
Lewis Leighton 1
Address: 4 Esslemontavenue, St Marchar

If this is the right entry for Clara, why the special interest in a brother Robert? Just helps to know on the searches  :)

You have access I think to a/try. Family trees, quite a few such as here http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/35070476/person/19958093702,  show Clara's mother as Margaret Louisa McCondach - b. 7 Dec 1844 in Aberdeen and d. 25 FEB 1894 in Aberdeen. Explains the second wife Barbara in 1901 census.

Not anything on the various trees on either Clara or Robert unfortunately  :-\

What was Robert up to in later years? How have you connected Clara and Robert together in later years?

Monica

PS: For anyone without access to a/try, there is this here:

Hi Monica, i noticed what i thought were 2 different family's, Robert i knew would confirm the right family.  I have a feeling they worked together in Glasgow and after Clara became sick he funded her until her death along with the SWH.  Any idea of when she died?

Once again you have been kind, thank you.

I have found a Clara Leighton who died on the Isle of Wight in 1923 and that fits as she was there at that time.  But nothing concrete.

Alan, more clues please  ;D

How do you know that Clara was in the IOW c.1920s?

Her brother Robert, how do you know he was supporting her in illness? You likely have access to records for SWH.

Any clues as to where Robert may have been living around that time, when Clara died? There might be newspaper notices that could be checked for example.

Hi Monica,  yes i have been looking into her SWH records. She was ill after she came back with TB and among other places she was last recorded on the IOW in 1923, I looked into death certs on the IOW and found one Clara Leighton that fits into things. However she is remembered at York minster Abbey on the SWH plague and i read she was a pensioner when she died(NOT FROM HER FILES THO). ??? i have her life story now in part thanks to you, and am close to finding her ending.
