Title: Brunsdon/Brownstone family
Post by: kittycatgirl9 on Wednesday 03 June 15 09:10 BST (UK)
my name is such a rarity were I live that I have always been curious as to our family's seat as it were.
I know there are a large concentration of brunsdons in wales and south west but I would like to confirm wither that is our origin.

now the story goes that we are a family that came over to England in the Norman conquest, heralding from somewhere in France.

now I have gone as far as i can in England regarding the census but i have hit a brick wall.

would be grateful for any information regarding this.

This says the name Brunsdon might be from a 'lost' village in Berkshire
http://www.surnamedb.com/Surname/Brunsdon

and someone else said Brunston/Brownstone prior to 1066 (norman Conquest)

You might like to see if anyone here can take the oldest members of your Brunsdon families back any further without census records

Ancestry have a Name Distribution function.
For 1891 that shows a concentration in Gloucestershire, with slightly less concentration in Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Sussex.

There are 441 Brunsdons on that census.
