Title: Winter Family - Gloucestershire, England arrived Canada 1913
Post by: reeves_colin on Wednesday 10 June 15 06:01 BST (UK)
Hi

I am looking for any additional information on the Winter Family who arrived in Canada from the UK in 1913

Solomon Winter b1878 + Louisa Winter (nee Newman) b1886
children Wilfred b1905, Louise b1905, Dennis b1908

Solomon was in Canadian Regiment WW1 number 408710

Solomon also had a brother

James George Winter b1886, he was single when he arrived in Canada.

James George married Bertha Lily Gurney in Canada in 1915

There was also another Brother

Fred b1884 married to Leonora Newman

Fred was in Canadian Regiment WW1 number 796176

Any help on these 3 Brothers would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Colin

Thank you everybody for all the wonderful information so far.

What I have recently discovered is the original 3 brothers, had an older sister Mary Jane, born in England in 1875.
Mary Jane Surname remained as Durham as she was born a year before Frederick Winter and Mary Ann Durham married in England.

Mary Jane Durham later married, and is my Great Grandmother,

thank you all again

Just returning to my Winter family in Canada

I have so far not been able to identify how they got to Canada from England

From their 1921 Canada Census lists I know that they arrived in Canada in the following years.

James George Winter (unmarried)arr 1910
Fred ( wife Leonora)  and Solomon Winter  (wife Louisa) arr 1913

Can anyone identify ship passenger lists that includes these families.
I am assuming that Fred and Solomon maybe went over to Canada together, and James as a single man was the pioneer

thanks in advance

Colin

Hello again

I have since discovered another Solomon Winter b 1848 England, who may well have traveled to Canada.

He appears to have arrived about 1870

I have not found him on any passenger list yet (he was probably single at the time of the arrival).

It may be the case that he married in CANADA -Julia 1874 Ontario, and possibly again to Emma before 1891

I believe Solomon died in 1917 as there is a reference to his grave

Any further help with this part of my Winter family would be greatly apprecited

thank you in advance

Hi,

On Solomon's death record it doesn't list the relationship of the informant.

George or James George's parents are Frederick Winter and Mary Durham according to
a marriage record in Norfolk, Ontario Nov. 30, 1915 to Bertha Lily Gurney.

Yes

this is my tree..

Where possible I have at least one document to prove the tree integrity, baptisms and Marriage records to confirm dates, places and parentage.

I know about Solomon John  b 1878 and have learnt a lot about him in England and Canada.
Also at least 2 of his brothers appear to have moved to Canada (James George b 1886 and Fred b 1884)

My new enquiry is more about Solomon b 1848

I am trying to confirm if he is the Solomon Winter who arrived in Canada in 1870 and died in 1917.

Sorry about the confusion

Thank you all so much for your help..

Colin
