Unless my mind is playing tricks on me, I am sure I saw this on ancestry - now I cannot find it again.
Looking for a Mary Lewis, b 1816 Carmarthen, in the workhouse in Carmarthen in 1891. Can anyone see her, or am I having a moment as well as my ipad!
thanks
Lisa

Hello Lisajb,
Maria is in the Joint Counties Asylum. There is an older Mary Lewis in The Union Workhouse, Carmarthen. Mary Lewis, born St Peter, Carmarthen, age 81. No occupation given but they are both widows and speak Welsh. (An***try)
Regards, Dod.

Never mind Omega, thanks for your efforts. Hope the wine was good!
Ecksdochter, thanks, will look at Mary

Not mine, unfortunately.
My Mary doesn't seem ever to have married. There was a child, born in 1831, but Mary didn't marry the father.
So far I have her as follows
1841 - Red Street, Carmathen with father John and mother Mary, John is a shopkeeper
1851 - still in Red Street with parents, father a grocer
father John dies in 1858, mother looks to have as well, just haven't found the right death registration yet!
1861 - a servant in Quay Street, still unmarried
1871 - living with aunt, and described as a governess
1881 - still with the aunt, and a schoolteacher.
Sorry, I am useless at posting census refs.
She may well have died, but, like her mother, working out which death registration is hers will be a bit expensive!

There is a derelict building next to Lidl Carmarthen.
Not sure if this is the same one, so next time I go I`ll try to see the date on the door.

Aso, by a strange coincidence this appeared this week in the Carmarthen Journal.

I`m unsure as too whether the Workhouse and the Infirmary were in 2 seperate locations

I`m totally wrong ! The workhouse was in Penlan Road. The Infirmary is in Priory Road.
My excuse, I`ve not lived here long !!
