Welcome to Rootchat, Fairiesm.

You would be better starting a new thread asking about this person as people may not see it in the middle of someone elses thread.

Hi
'Welsh Newspapers Online' cover up to end of 1919. There are reports in English and Welsh, mid/late December 1919 of him having been taken ill in Blaenau Ffestiniog whilst staying there with his sister-in-law.

BLAENAU FFESTINIOG
Dr. Peter Fraser, formerly medical officer of health for Carnarvonshire, who went out to India as a medical missionary and returned recently to this country, is seriously ill at Blaenau Festiniog, where he's staying with his sister-in-law.

CAERNARVON
DR. FRASER.The many friends of Dr. Peter Fraser in the town will learn with regret that he has been taken seriously ill at Blaenau Festiniog, where he is at present staying with his sister-in-law. Dr. and Mrs Fraser, while they stayed in the locality, took a great interest in social and religious matters. Dr. Fraser was one of the chief instruments in forming the local Y.M.C.A. branch.

No additional info in the Welsh reports.

Reports of his death will probably be in the January 1920 editions, probably under CAERNARVON.

Hi
Search on:
"peter fraser" AND missionary

will provide info on him, including:

1). Alwyn was not in Mizoram for many years. He led a sheltered life to protect him from the diseases that were then very rife, which may explain why he was not given a Mizo name unlike other missionary children.

(2). Dr. Peter Fraser was born in July 1864 at Caernarfon, North Wales, and practised as a doctor in the Rhonda Valley, South Wales, and in Caernarfon. He was appointed as the first Mission doctor in Mizoram and he and his wife Mary Catherine arrived in Aizawl on 9th December 1908. He established a dispensary in Mission Veng, was involved in the ‘serf’ controversy and left Aizawl on 12th October 1912. He resigned from Mission work in 1913 and went on to work as a tea garden doctor in Assam. He died at Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales, on 29th December 1919.

(3). See: Bala-Bangor Theological Seminary in Wikipedia.

NOTE:  Alwyn was his son.

Hi all ...

Sarah thank you very much for refining the search subject.  :) Truly appreciate it.

Emyr thank you for all the contributions .The reason I am looking for this information is that my mother got a vision to go and anoint his grave and pray over it as my mother is from the state of Mizoram, India, where the late Dr Fraser had his missionary work. I would like to see her fulfill her vision while she is still alive. She is 65 years old. To go to a place we have never been is challenging and would welcome new leads on the exact burial place and if anyone can suggest a way to confirm so we can plan a successful trip sometime in the coming years.  :) :) :) God bless u all.

The Burial Register confirms it:  Peter Fraser aged 55 of Tuebrooke Villa, Green Lane, Liverpool, buried 1 Jan 1920, is on page 84, entry no. 661 in the Burial Register for Llanbeblig, Caernarvonshire.  To check for a memorial inscription, try Gwynedd Family History Society:

Hi
Memorial Inscription:

In sacred and ever loving memory of my beloved husband, Dr Peter Fraser. Taken home December 29, 1919, aged 55 years. "Until we meet".
Also Mary, his beloved wife, who died June 9, 1941.  "Reunited".
(Stone cross on box).
Info from GFHS publication.
The grave is in the far upper area of the Cemetery, which is overgrown with brambles and trees, so I was unable to view the gravestone.
Emyr

Correction to my posting of 26/06/15 : Alwyn was the son of a returning missionary and his wife, not the son of Mr & Mrs Peter Fraser.

Cardiff is not the best place to be heading if you need to get to Caernarvon, as they are at opposite ends of Wales, and south/north transport links are not great. You're better off getting to Liverpool or Chester  and heading west - much easier and quicker

Priase the Lord for his guidance and may God bless everyone who contributed to the search one way or another. It means alot to my fmaily, especially my mum. We were honoured to be introduced to the Daily post for North Wales who wanted to do a story and published the same only for the glory of God. Let the glory be His and only His .. Amen. God bless you all. Thank you and regards, Marie Lalthangliani Hnamte on behalf of my mum Tlanghmingthangi Hnamte,  New Delhi, India.

Hi
Glad to hear that your mother was able to visit the grave.
I've read the account in the Daily Post on the web today. In view of the  info 'Drosybont' and myself supplied, I was annoyed to read the account of the search :   "...... along with other members of the congregation and local community then spent days trying to find the location of the grave by scouring the internet and historical records. By coincidence, they discovered that Dr Fraser was buried in the graveyard at the back of the town's Llanbeblig Church."

I'm pleased that the grave was discovered and cleaned and that fairiesm's mother was able to visit. It is a shame that people on Rootschat didn't get a mention - as it had already been found by people on here, there was no need for the congregation to spend days looking for it again! Of course, it could well be that it was incorrectly reported.

My apology that Rootschat was not mentioned. I did mention we were helped via internet. When we reached the place it was all covered with thorns and  thistles and could not find even after days search. The church Rector reached out Dorah for the records and archives and map of the site and the grave description. So church members and the volunteers searched the upper side as informed and with the help of the grave description and dimension they were able to locate and clear the surrounding graveyard. So in a way they helped us find the exact grave when we almost gave up as we had passed that area many times with my mum but we're unsuccessful. Sincere apologies again for not having mentioned that in the article as we only narrated our story. Our intention was also not to be in the newspaper but they reached out to us and said they wanted the people to know that a great man was not known to that place. The article is just an article but we wanted God to be glorified for all his guidance and yes your support and assistance goes a long way in our success and we cannot thank your team enough. God bless your team and the work that you do.
