Title: William Robert Allison help
Post by: garydevine on Wednesday 08 July 15 23:36 BST (UK)
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could ehpl me find this person.

William Robert Allison was the son of William Allison and Eliza(beth) Love, she goes by Parker too.
I know nothing about William apart from his birth in Glasgow on Nov 16 1873. hes on the the 1891 census being with his mother and her new husband in Glasgow but I cant find him on the 81 census or the 1901 census or 1911. I cant find a death or marriage certificate too which makes me think hes moved abroad or down to England. On ancestry it says there is a Robert Allison in the place he was born in 1881 and there a same guy in England with a wife Mary Ann in Linconshire but my ancestry is playing up and wont let me access them. Would be good if you could help me find some info on him and his family if he had one or a death or anything on him, hes the only lead I have for my line of allisons dating back 3 generations cause the rest of the male lines either died young or had no children and the 4th generation going back were all girls and married,

If added this to the English forum too

Gary

Hi Gary,

Have you considered trying spelling variations Allinson/Allyson/Ellison......can't say I've seen any other's but on ancestry some transcriptions can be questionable  ;D

oh so hes with Eliza in 1901...

only reason I said I couldn't find him was because I already have a 1901 census records for his mother and he isn't losted down staying with her, her and her husband and son are listed but they are at the very bottom of the page so don't no if William is maybe on the other side but this is what I have for 1901
Govan, 462 Crown Street

James Parker 66
Eliza Parker 53
James M Parker 18

and in 1891 I have

Govan 462 Crown Street

James Parker 56
 Eliza Parker 42
James M Parker 8
Hugh L Parker 4
William R Allison 17

I don't know who this other  Eliza is born in 1875

I think this may be a different family - there's a John Allison and Eliza(beth) Small who had a son, William, in 1871 in Tradeston, and a daughter, Eliza(beth) in 1875.

If your William Robert Allison is the William Robert Allison who's in Lincolnshire in 1911, then he may already have been in England in 1901. That William Robert Allison married Mary Ann Cullen in 1902 in Clee, Lincolnshire. His father is named as William Allison. He's down as an engine driver in 1911 - no children in the house, nor listed on the census return (the 1911 census required married women to say how many children they'd had in the current marriage...). William's place of birth is 'Renfrew, Glasgow'...  ::)

A 'William R Allison' died in Grimsby, Lincolnshire in 1936, aged 62 - which may or may not have been him...

Eliza is down as daughter of them in 1901 making her the sister of William  ::)

if it is her sister why isn't she down in the 81 and 91 census records. I don't think its the right family you've got there

There aren't any Allison children with a mother's maiden name of Cullen coming up in Lincolnshire between 1902 and William Robert Allison's death in 1936 that I can see. They had been married for nine years by the time of the 1911 census - by which time William was 39 and Mary Ann 41 - and had no children noted on the census return - either alive or dead. Doesn't mean there weren't any, but it isn't looking that promising...

A Mary Ann Allison died in 1949 in Grimsby, aged 79 - which seems likely to be her. It looks like she was born in 1869 in Lincoln, to William Cullen (a chimney sweep) and Eliza Wilson. I can't find her on the 1891 or 1901 census though, which is a bit annoying - was trying to see how she might have come across William Robert Allison, who she married in 1902  :)

Not sure how much information English marriage certificates hold - the index simply says that William Robert Allison's father was William Allison - if the marriage certificate names the mother, and the father's occupation, then that would probably be the simplest way of ruling him in or out as your William Robert Allison...

Hello,
Yes, 'ammack' is right, 1901 Census. (A**try) James Parker, listed on Line 21. Eliza, Line 22. James M, Line 23. Hugh L Parker listed on Line 1, ie: first line of a new page. All at Household Schedule Number 43. Hugh L Parker 14 Office Boy b Glasgow.
Suggested Records on this site have a Hugh Love Parker listed in US Border Crossings from Canada to US., & Hugh Love Parker, listed several times on Massachusetts Passenger & Crew Lists.
1911 England Census has a Hugh Parker 24 b Glasgow, with the 11th Hussars in Kent, but there are 2 (maybe more) Hugh Parkers b Glasgow abt 1887
Doesn't help track your William, but sometimes odd snippets of information can be the last piece of the jigsaw.
               Regards,     Dod.

Hello -- Wondering what William R Allison's relation is to Walter Allison. I replied on the other thread of yours -- Walter Allison was my great great grandfather.
