Title: Which Catholic parishes for the Milltown area - Co Galway in 1889 ?
Post by: RobinBird on Sunday 12 July 15 14:11 BST (UK)
Which Catholic parishes should I search to find records of the following people ?  Ellen BURN (nee DONLAN), Ellen WELCH & James LOFTUS [children of Margaret LOFTUS (nee DONLAN)], Peter KELLY & Patrick KELLY [sons of Honora KELLY (nee DONLAN)] resided in the area of Milltown, Co Galway.  They are mentioned in the Nov 1889 probate of estate of Thomas DONLAN at Watertown, NY.

Hello Kerrill,

Hi Robinbird,
I live in Milltown so if you want any photos(graves or the like) just ask.

It's interesting that you live in Milltown.  I looked at the view on maps.google.ie and it seems to be a small place.  I expect that is was the post office address for these people when the probate for Thomas Donlan [1820-1886] was done in 1889 in Watertown, NY so they could have lived some distance away from Milltown in any direction - north, south, east or west.  I have read items of Irish people walking many, many miles to get from one place to another.

Just to mention - besides his many next-of-kin in Milltown, Co Galway & the USA there was

nephew William KELLY, son of Honora [nee Donlan] lived in Holdon, Lincolnshire, England
nephew Mathew LOFTUS, son of Margaret [nee Donlan] lived in Brig, Lincolnshire, England

And Thomas was in debt so there were no assets to send to the next-of-kin, merely notify them that the estate was in probate.

I have not yet had the time to go through the RC parish register.

I am enthralled with the lives of ordinary, everyday people that show up in old documents.  I have posted snippets from many documents at https://sites.google.com/site/irishgleanings/

Regards,
Sheila

Ahhhh... Well if you get stuck at any time just ask!  I could look through registers for you BUT could easily miss something that might jump off the pages at you!!

It really is better if you look for yourself.

Having benefitted from some nice snippets on your site it would be a pleasure to assist you in return!
