Title: Looking for Charles Livermore senior in 1871
Post by: LizzieL on Sunday 12 July 15 15:51 BST (UK)
Charles Livermore married Winifred Eaton on 24 August 1884 at St Andrews Enfield. he named his father as Charles. He was 19 making his year of birth about 1865. I can trace Charles (jnr) and Winifred on several censuses and although his year of birth varies by a couple of years, his place of birth is always Edmonton. The problem is I can't find Charles, with father also called Charles on 1871 or 1881 censuses when he would be most likely living with his parents.

has anyone a sharper pair of eyes. please

There is of course the possibility that the 'Charles' shown as father on the wedding info is incorrect, and repeats Charles Junior's name in error.

Have you got Charles' birth certificate?

Apparently

Charles Livermore
Year:   1866
Quarter:   Apr-May-Jun
Edmonton
Middlesex
Volume:   3a
Page:   169

Which would of course confirm his father's name

I've found the marriage for this couple, he was Charles Robert Livermore and their marriage was registered Q3 1870, so little Charles would be born before they married. I can't find a registration for him, not as Livermore or Munns.

Added
I think he was registered as Walter Charles Livermore Q1 1871 and should be 2 months not 2 years, which would tie up with a baptism in Feb 1871 of a Walter Charles to Charles Robert and Sarah Ann Livermore. dob is given as 24 jan 1871

Do you mean you have Charles Robert Livermore who married Sarah Ann Munns. Their daughter Clara married William Pinnuck.

The Charles I am looking for (married to Winifred) was still alive and still in Edmonton in 1939. Winifred is still with him. His birthdate is given as 1st March 1866, so would actually be 18 when he married. Winifred is slightly younger. Both would have needed parents consent, but maybe they each added a year to their ages when they married. The 1871 census has only one Charles Livermore b 1866 Edmonton, son of Thomas and Elizabeth. This was found earlier and I was not sure about it. But it is possible he gave the wrong name on his marriage cert, or the clerk mada a misake as Igor Strav suggested. If he was the son of Thomas, it looks like Thomas died in 1874 and his mother remarried. He may have little recollection of his father and could have easily made a mistake with his name.

Yes Charles Robert who appears to be named after his brother Robert Charles.
