Hi,
I hit a roadblock once I reach this person in my searching. I was able to find the following information based on 1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census but I'm not able to find any other records of him. His son Lauchlain would be my great-great grandfather on my fathers side.
Samuel Campbell
Born 1786
Lived in Kilmuir, Inverness-shire, Scotland
Wife: Mary
Children:
Anne
Marg
Alex
Lachlain
Donald
Annie
-
Who was Samuel's wife?
-
I can only find his wife was Mary. At least that was Lauchlains mothers name.
-
When and where did Lauchlain marry?
If he married or died after 1855 in Scotland then his parents names will be recorded on the certificates
-
Did any of Lachlan's siblings remain in Scotland as that route might be easier to find both parents names on any certs. as Sancti says after 1855 ???
Annie
-
Lauchlain did marry Mary Ann MacDonald
1874 4 Aug in Port Hood, Inverness, Nova Scotia, Canada
The Marriage certificate only lists his parents as Samuel & Mary.
I'll look into some of his siblings to see if they remained in Scotland. Thanks

Marrying 1874....................his father Samuel would have been 88 yrs old ???
How old was Lachlan when he married ???
Annie
ADDED............What are the years given for Lachlans birth on census records & what dates/locations were they in Scotland ???

I seem to be stuck at this point. I am not able to find any records about any of the siblings that mention the same parents. And Samuel and Mary don't appear on any other census records for the area. Any suggestions on how to proceed?
-
I think he was a widower when he married Mary
1871 census has a possible for him with wife Margaret and son Samuel aged 13
-
But in 1841 he was married to Mary and living in Kilmuir? (30 years previous) And 1871 he would be 85.
-
I'm talking about Laughlin being married to a Margaret before his marriage in 1874
-
I think he was a widower when he married Mary
1871 census has a possible for him with wife Margaret and son Samuel aged 13
My theory is....................
The children listed on 1841 were grandchildren ???
There seems to be too big a gap in Samuel's yr of birth 1786 & 1st child (on census) born 1826.......
which would mean he was 40 before starting a family ???
I think there was probably a son named Samuel who was the father of those children ???
Annie
-
Older children could have left home by 1841
There are some double names ???
-
1901 Canadian Census
Laughlin states he arrived n Canada 1841 so he must have went with his parents

Where does it show Lauchlain moved to Nova Scotia in 1841? I show him still in the Scotland census then. The next record I found was his marriage to Mary Ann MacDonald in 1874.
-
The 1841 Scotland census was taken on 6 June, he must have left Scotland soon after.

After reviewing my facts, I'm not 100% sure I'm looking at the correct Lachlan. I'll start a new thread now to try and confirm that first.
