I am searching for info on the parents of Sam Hughes, Hugh and Mary. Sam's marriage at Nannerch, 9 June 1788, to Jane Jones gives the additional information that they are his parents and surnames of both are HUGHES.

Hi again, when I reach the c 1770's I seriously start wondering if the parents were both born in even the same county as their offspring, their is a Hugh b 1769 Nannerch parents Harry/Elizabeth and if Mary was older 2 1766 Robert & Gwen 1767 Richd & Mary
All baptised Nannerch

:'( idiot try looking for marriages!!
Hang on a mo where does it say at the marriage of Sam that Mary was nee Hughes?
Have you the baptism of Sam?
-
The marriage record volunteers the names of the bride and groom's parents: Hugh Hughes and Mary Hughes (him)...Edward Edwards and Jane Jones (her). Both of Nannerch.
-
no baptism for Sam...yet.
-
Nannerch is currently in Flintshire, Yes.
But I wonder whether Nannerch may have been in Denbighshire at the date you are looking at.
The Bishop of St Asaph had a summer house on the outskirts of Nannerch, I believe.

Hi,
There are more details re Nannerch on the GENUKI website.
HTH,
Megran.
-
But what does that get me but a list of candidates and no specifics???
-
If you live not far away, it may be worth a trip to Nannerch parish church cemetery. Look for headstones.

I live in Florida, USA.

Looking at the form of records alongside that of Sam Hughes, they all seem to give the parents as of the same surname, which is too much of a coincidence for it to be the maiden name of the mother,I think.
Also, you may have misread the record in that the bride is given as".. widow daughter of Edward and Jane Jones..."(similarly Sam(uel) is given as "..widower,son of...")

How am I misreading them? Other than the second Hughes surname? I don't have access to those records. I am relying on folk from the UK on here who do.
-
It doesn't say "....daughter of Edward Edwards and Jane Jones....." it says "...daughter of Edward and Jane Jones..." I think whoever has relayed the data assumed it was Edward Edwards, because the bride is given as an Edwards, but,I suspect this was her married(now widowed) name, and her maiden name was Jones.Apologies for ascribing the interpretation to you.

Ahhhh, thank you for clarifying, Roger! Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately none of that really helps, because you are left looking for a Mary (maiden name unknown) as the bride of Hugh, marriage presumably before 1755 as the calculated birth of Samuel.Probably therefore, say 1730-1755,but no guarantee it would be at Nannerch.I will see if I can find anything in Wales Marriage Bonds(online) at The National Library of Wales(NLW).
