Title: Broseley/Ironbridge - Tennant
Post by: Beckey on Wednesday 29 July 15 14:54 BST (UK)
Can anyone help with this last try for my Gt.Gt.Grandmother Susannah Tennant,  according to the various census, she was born in either Brosely or ironbridge about 1809, this according to her age at death.
To date i have been unable to find either birth or baptism details, was there at either place somewhere where unwanted babies could be left? as that is the only assumption I have.

She married a James Frost in 1828 at Wolstanton and had 4 children, James died about 1835.
She then married a Daniel Smith in 1836 at Wolstanton and had 7 children.

She died in 1887 at Kidsgrove.

Any help appreciated.

the marriage was in 1828

Hartlebury to Brosley / Ironbridge is 25 miles - I have never heard of Hartlebury - so - would someone born there give Brosley / Ironbridge as their birthplace ?? the nearest big town ??

maybe make a note of this baptism ??....did Susannah name any children Francis or Elizabeth ??
added
1871 census states b 1811
1881 census states b 1812 ....so maybe I have the wrong Susannah Tennant ??.....the only possible I could find though - I wonder if she took off a couple of years off her age - not uncommon

Hi garstonite,

Have the marriage cert., it could be June but is a bit faint, there is a y at the end so could also be January and that is how I read it.  The various census do deviate a bit, but I have one ancester who managed to knock 10 years off before he died.

FreeREG has the Marriage as 2 Jun 1828
Witnesses; James Nixon/John Hassal

Interestingly a few years either side at same Church are these Marriages;
Francis TENNANT/Hannah BALL, 6 June 1824
Ann TENANT/Thomas HAMMOND, 11 Nov 1833

Possible Siblings for Susanna?

It may be worth following them up on Census to see where they are born.

Hi trish1120,

Thank you for that info., will certainly have a look at them, first thing I have had of interest.

But i am sticking with January as the month, their first child was born in july 1928, so it is still either way.

Hi trish1120,

The thought was there, pity it didn't come off.  Looks like I will have to take what I have got.
