I am trying to identify the correct Edward Paddock who married a Elizabeth ?, possibly between 1852 & 1957. The 1871 census shows his wife, Elizabeth born in Codsall, Stafford, but the 1881 census shows her as being born in Shrawardine, Shropshire. Finding her surname is part of my search. Their children in the 1881 census are;
Thomas, born c 1857, Maria (my G/G mother), born c 1859, William, born C 1864, & Mary, born c 1874. I have identified up to six other Edward Paddock's married between 1851 & 1857 but no bride had a first name of Elizabeth.
Any help with eliminating another 'brick wall' would be gratefully appreciated.

The birth certificate of one of the children will have the mother's maiden name - have you tried to identify one of those more precisely?
Have you found the family in 1861?
Is this Maria's birth?

Hi chempat,
Yes that's Maria Jane, she was born in 1859. Will search for the B/C & thanks for the info & advice, much appreciated.

Ancestry has the family as Warrock (because that's what it looks like) in 1861, Edward and Elizabeth both born Shrewsbury. Thomas and Maria born Codsall

Thanks again chempat,
Have just tried locating them on the 1861 census with no success, but you have. Will search further for Warrock & see what I get.

For consideration:
Marriages December quarter 1856
Elizabeth Adams Atcham 6a 1197
Edward Parrock Atcham 6a 1197

Not sure if I am looking at the right one but the 1871 census says Edward was born Montford, Salop and Elizabeth born Shrawardine, Salop? Genuki shows a St Marys Church Shrawardine but nothing about its history so not not sure if it had been built around the time Edward and Elizabeth would have been getting married.
Any Shropshire experts know anything about this church and whether there are records?

This might help?

Thanks again to all for the further info;
Yes the 'Warrock' misspelled name on the 1861 census is the Paddock family.
Have now found a tree on ancestry that gives Edward's wife as Elizabeth Adams, now to find their marriage place & date.

I suggested the Adams marriage on previous page.

G'day chempat,
My apologies for the oversight on the previous page & the delay in replying as I have been waiting the arrival of the M/C of Edward & Elizabeth.
As stated by you, the m/c shows Edward's surname as Parrock, not Paddock which has not helped in determining if I have the correct couple. The M/C also states they were married on 10 or 18 of Nov 1856 at Montford & Edward's father is Thomas, not John as I have. Could his name have been mis-understood & written incorrectly & was Parrock a common name within the Shropshire area. Also was this a common happening with certificates back then as most people were illiterate & would not know if their name was written incorrectly. I have searched various search sites in the hope that an Edward Parrock married a Elizabeth Adams at around the same time but have found nothing to confirm this.
